Newbie Advice - Building a team around your Ballpark

Postby larball18 » Sat May 17, 2008 2:08 am

New to the game, and would like to hear from the vets: what are your strategies & considerations when choosing players (hitters & pitchers) to match your home ballpark?

If you can point me to previous discussions on this, that'd be great as well.

Thanks for the help.

Basically if you chose a park with a high BPHR rating you want hitters with lots of # symbols on their cards and pitchers with very few. If you take a park with a low BPHR rating you want just the opposite. You would want guys with a high BA and OBP and decent speed You can use pitchers that will give up the HRs in a small park but they are only flyouts in your park.

Here is an example of a hitter's park team

There are lots of .300 hitters on this team with decent speed and pitching.

Here is a slugging team in a HR park

Notice I didn't spend much on pitching for this team (and it shows). Look at the hitter's cards however and notice all the # symbols which will be HRs in my park.

If you chose a more balanced park you would want a more balanced team that these extreme park teams.
