5/6ths of the Way Through; Strangeloves On Top

Postby Al Hogg » Thu Jun 05, 2008 7:21 am

The Reno Vators have been making a charge, though, and now seem to be in playoff contention, at least. I did make a player switch when Davey Lopes went down with 15-game injury, picking up Marvell Wynne and Chet Lemon to platoon in centerfield and moving the Chili Davis/Mitch Webster platoon to rightfield.

[b:46db5c0a86]Dr. Strangeloves[/b:46db5c0a86]: 73-62, 2nd place, 3 games out, tied for Wild Card lead.

[b:46db5c0a86]Baden-Baden Even Worse[/b:46db5c0a86]: 70-65, 3rd place, 3 games out, 2 out of Wild Card lead.

[b:46db5c0a86]Winslow Homers[/b:46db5c0a86]: 69-66, 1st place by 8 games.

[b:46db5c0a86]Reno Vators[/b:46db5c0a86]: 67-68, 3rd place, 6 games out.

End of the Regular Season

Postby Al Hogg » Sat Jun 14, 2008 1:33 am

Only one playoff team (the Homers), with two others (the Strangeloves and Even Worse) missing out only because of one loss in the season’s final three-game series. All four teams had winning records and positive run differentials, though. (Each, in fact, had an “Expected W-L” record better than its actual record.) The best record of my four teams? The bad defense experiment, the Strangeloves, by a nose.

[b:e12115207b]Dr. Strangeloves [/b:e12115207b]– 87-75. 944 runs scored (1st in league by 129 runs); 838 runs allowed (highest in league). Expected W-L: 91-71 (league’s best).
Lost division title in 11-inning game 162.
Award-winning players:
Hubie Brooks, 2nd in MVP voting, 1st team All-Star and Silver Slugger. 36 HRs, 121 RBI, .355 BA, .408 OBP, .587 SLG.
Steve Sax, 1st team All-Star, 2nd team Silver Slugger. 119 runs, .352 BA.
Jose DeLeon, 12th in All-Star voting. 13-11, 4.10 ERA.

[b:e12115207b]Winslow Homers [/b:e12115207b]– 86-76. 886 runs scored (2nd in league), 814 runs allowed (8th lowest). Expected W-L: 88-74.
Won division by 13 games.
Award-winning players:
Frank White, 1st team All-Star and Silver Slugger, 2nd team Gold Glove. 37 HRs, 7 errors in 156 games.

Joe Johnson, 2nd team Gold Glove at pitcher.

[b:e12115207b]Baden-Baden Even Worse [/b:e12115207b]– 84-78. 680 runs scored (9th in league), 636 runs allowed (3rd lowest). Expected W-L: 86-76.
Finished two games behind division leader, one game out of Wild Card.
Award-winning players:
Eric King, 9th in All-Star voting. 18-9, 3.42 ERA.
Curt Young, 11th in All-Star voting. 16-10, 2.57 ERA.
Ryne Sandberg, 1st team Gold Glove. 3 errors in 158 games.
Tony Fernandez, 1st team Gold Glove. 15 errors in 162 games.

[b:e12115207b]Reno Vators [/b:e12115207b]– 83-79. 708 runs scored (5th in league), 667 runs allowed (4th lowest). Expected W-L 86-76.
