HELP! First atg team...

Postby toyman323 » Mon Jan 30, 2006 7:02 am

Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated! HAL really screwed me in the draft, I didnt get any of my first 4 picks and only got a few overall. Only Cochrane, E. Mathews and Ron Taylor remain from my drafted team, the rest came from waivers/free agents. Considering that, I dont think I did too badly, but I'm not really sure. I had the 2nd waiver pick, the team with the first pick had a decent 2B but needed a SS (Yount & Banks were available), so I went for Joe Morgan and didnt get him either. After waivers I went on a frenzy, grabbing players that I had read good things about on the boards, and Yount was still there!. This is what I ended up with...

Hubbell, C. L
McLain, D. R
Wilson, E. R
Knepper, B. L
Forsch, B. R
Knowles, D. L
Baumgartner, S. L
Taylor, R. R
Borbon, P. R
Osinski, D. R

Cochrane, M. C
Killefer, B. C
Murray, E. 1B
Kluszewski, T. 1B
Doran, B. 2B
Weis, A. 2B
Mathews, E. 3B
Yount, R. SS
Heathcote, C. LF
Kuntz, R. LF
Geronimo, C. CF
Davis, K. CF
Miller, B. RF
Lewis, J. RF

My home park is Sportsmens46 (I went neutral for my first team).
The parks in my division are Forbes, Tiger84, and Bennett.
The other parks in the league are Astrodome, 2 Fenway46s, another Forbes, 2 Griffiths, Shibe29, and Municipal.
Since there are alot of pitcher parks in the league and good SP's were available, I went a little over budget on starting pitchers. I am somewhat satisfied with the team except for bullpen depth, leadoff hitter and LF/CF.
I was thinking of Heathcote vs RHP, and Miller vs LHP in the leadoff spot. Nemo Leibold is available, but I'm not impressed with his arm or errors.
Kluszewski should make a good lefty PH, Kuntz righty PH and maybe a spot start in CF vs lefties in hitter parks???

You have a good defensive squad but I think you could allocate your money a little better. Basically you are giving up two offensive spots (Geronimo and Doran) which in a neutral park, is probably too much. I like the Leibold idea--he is a great cheap lead-off option. I'd think about downgrading Doran (he typically dissapoints) to Evers or even Frank White. You still get the 1 defensively but it is a lot cheaper. Evers usually outperforms his card. You can take the money and upgrade elsewhere, maybe get a little better 3 or 4 starter, beef up the pen, or improve at CF. I love Geronimos D, but he'll never hit and Doran probably won't either (at least not 3.55 worth). CFs are tough to come by, so it depends on who is available.

Also, if I count correctly, you have 11 pitchers, which isn't necessary nor advisable. Is D. Dimaggio or Doby available?

You could save alot of $$ by dropping Hubbell...IMO, not necessary in a neutral park, esp with McLain on the staff, who can serve as your ace, although better suited to a true pitchers park imo, but i think he is your best option of those available in that price range. This would enable you to upgrade your hitting, as stated above. Viable options available to you from the left side to replace Hubbell are...

Grove
Ford
Pollett
Leifeld

All would be good here. This would free up over 3 million dollars for you to upgrade geronimo . Dawson would be really nice here, but would have to free up some other $$ to get him i am afraid. others i like here in order of preference are

D. Dimaggio
Snodgrass
McCosky

Although Doran does not usually do that well, i don't mind him here. Nice D, good obp, great speed, 3 game injury max. He will do fine, esp considering your options. I would have said take evers, but he is gone, and I do not like frank white. He is a hard lefty with horrible obp.

my .02 :)

Good luck!!

Downgrade Hubbell to someone like Ford or Leifield and then:

1) Replace Doran with Doerr.

2) Upgrade to D.Dimaggio or Agee in CF.
