To be honest, I've looked at this theme, but the teams are waaaaayyy too uneven at the start. Even with two studs from non listed teams, who in their right mind would take the 65 Dodgers plus Campy and Snider versus the powerhouse Yankees or Cards or Giants? Same with the 59 Cubs. IMO, you'll need better original teams (29 Cubs, 55 Dodgers, 86 Mets) to attract a full league.

Carter's an Expo/Free Agent

hfsmart,

You can't have Carter.

********************************

Uneven at the start means you get 2 first draft picks until you catch up...

think about it. Who will draft Pete Alexander? The worst team at the end of week one!

hfsmart,

I answered the question about Carter incorrectly this morning, apparently, before I actually woke up. Carter is an Expo (My answer just edited correctly - above).

Regarding "uneven at the start", if you read the theme rules, you'll see the team in last place each Saturday gets 2 Free Agent picks before the next highest ranked team gets his two. That's two each and every Saturday until game 142, 14 Free Agents in all, added to the two Franchise players. Should we make it three?

Admitted, this is an experimental idea... it may or may not actually work out that well. No one has mentioned that the Yankees could start it's worst players the first week in order to get a higher draft pick of the best free agents, but then so can the Mets...

That strategy had occurred to me. However, in my case, I wouldn't do it. Just like Herm Edwards once said, "You play to win the game"! IMO, the pool is deep enough that, even with last pick, you will still be able to help your team. :)

Why not let people choose which franchise/year they start with?

Looking at it, the person taking the Pirates would be FOOLISH not to want to start w/ the 09 team with that stud SP and build from there.

Additionally, what are ALL the teams "associations" and which teams players are available as FA after week 1. The rules are not very clear in this regard and may be one reason people aren't joining quickly. That and the fact that it is a first come first serve league.... not very attractive to some after the first few people join and take what is considered to be the "best teams".

I think Novie has some good points there. Giving people the choice of which franchise they start with makes sense. Plus, if you did the choices by random lotto drawing, rather than a first come, first served basis, that WOULD be more fair, and probably attract more interest. I can't speak for the others who committed, but I would be willing to throw the Yanks back in to the pool if you went to a lotto. To take the sting out of it for those teams lower in the order, you may want to have the FIRST week of FA signings be in reverse order of the draft. Starting in the second week, go to the worst record drafts first, etc. Just some thoughts. :)

The worst record drafts first every week!

All unsigned players are available for all drafts! even Yankees except for the '56 players and Ruth and Gehrig.

To remain in last place for 7 weeks, you would have to do it with the top 14 picks on your team. Remember, if you're in last, you pick two FAs before anyone else gets anyone. Need three?

Still doesn't explain why their is not a choice of any franchise you may want to start with... take any Cincy, and rest of reds years are frozen... even allow say the 09 Pirates by granting them right to add two additional .50 hitters so they can get to 13 for week one.
