September callups

September callups

Postby Valen » Sun Sep 04, 2005 9:08 pm

Would like to hear from fans of the various teams. Two angles for this.

First, for teams still in contention what callups might make a difference on your favorite teams chances?

Second, for those teams not in contention who is being given a chance and maybe opening some eyes?

Rangers seem to be happy with what they have seen from Volquez. But I do not think he was ready yet and his performance has shown that. Hershiser thinks that allowing him to struggle in September will benefit him come spring training next year. Some kid named Feldman has come out of nowhere and pitched well in relief in 3 straight appearances.

well im a red sox fan and what the sox problem is... though its a GREAT "problem" to have is,

the Sox are LOADED in the farm system (theres something i thought id never hear or say)!!!!,

yet being in contention, its difficult to bring the kids up and get a good look at them

That is a problem the Rangers do not have to worry about. Loe pitched a third straight good start today. He and Wilson combined for a shoutout. I think Loe will be good next year. Wilson could be good if they keep him in the pen and do not try to make him a starter. Dominguez pitches well enough often enough to tantalize you with what might be, but inconsistent.

goredsoc33, among those players you refer to in Boston system, any you think might be useful down the stretch run if used?

Interesting topic.

I'll share a few.

I think the one I'm interested most in is whether the Nationals call up Ryan Zimmerman (3b) who was just drafted in June.

I saw this quote recently.

[quote:74c02bf692]Zimmerman is hitting .313 with nine homers, 17 doubles and 31 RBI in 56 games at Double-A Harrisburg (.471-2-6-5 in four Class-A games, too)[/quote:74c02bf692]

Jeremy Hermida if the Marlins already has made a "grand' impact for his team.

Too bad Delmon Young of TB is NOT going to be a call up.

Here are his stats (as of about a week ago):

Delmon Young TB 19 AA-AAA .312 25 HR 93 RBI 85 Runs 32 SB's

Talk about a young stud.

Here are a few more:

Carlos Quentin ARI 23 Triple-A .308 21 87 96 9

Luke Scott HOU 27 Triple-A .286 31 87 69 2

Franklin Gutierrez CLE 22 AA-AAA .260 11 49 80 16

Jason Botts TEX 25 Triple-A .289 24 98 90 2

Brian Anderson CHW 23 Triple-A .296 15 54 69 3

Wladimir Balentien SEA 21 Class A .289 25 89 74 9

Shin-Soo Choo SEA 23 Triple-A .276 11 50 69 18

Shane Victorino PHI 24 Triple-A .310 18 70 93 17

Kendry Morales LAA (16 HR, 51 RBI, .305 since June 13th in Double-A)

Jose Bautista PIT (23 HR, 90 RBI in Double-A)

DO I THINK THAT ANY OF THE PLAYERS COULD BE USEFUL FOR THE RED SOX???

YES!!!!!

JONATHAN PAPLEBPON HAS ALREADY DONE WELL.....FUTURE STUD PITCHER.....

SO GETTING BACK , COULD SOME BE USEFUL DONW THE STRETCH YESS... BUT THE SOX BRASS SEEMS VERY VERY VERY RELUCTANT TO EXPOSE THEM TO A PENNANT RACE THIS SEASON.. EVEN THOUGH..

THEIR EXCUSE FOR NOT MAKING A MAJOR MOVE AT THE TRADE DEADLINE IN JULY WAS USING THE "KIDS"....
SO

WHO KNOWS....................................................

OH THE PROBLEMS OF BEING WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!!!

OH AND SOON TO BE 3PEAT SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!

Being an Astros fan, Luke Scott might prove to be an important player, especially if he could just come close to what he did in AAA. We have the 3 stud starters and the closer, our offense needs help.

Oh...there is another guy called up, someone named Jeff Bagwell from AA...he seems to have some talent

Seriously, if Bags can be reliable pinch hitter and maybe play his way back into the lineup by month end, that would help tremendously, but I dont think his is more than just a bench player for the rest of the season.

I don't even remember his name but the SP the White Sox had going yesterday vs the Red Sox looked tremendous in his 3rd start. He has led his minor league in K's for several years now according to Rick Sutcliffe.

Can't stand Sutcliffe as an announcer by the way. You might as well pour sugar coated syrup all over me when I watch a game that he announces. If you listen to him every player is just wonderful and is either an all-star or will be soon.

I think Luke Scott has been called up and is playing some for Houston. Interesting that mav mentions Jason Botts. I thought with the failure of Hidalgo he should have been given a shot months ago. Right now I think he is being left in OK City for the AAA playoffs. I would like to see Rangers give him and a couple others a shot next year, bypass their annual pickup of a big bat they always think they need and SIGN SOME PITCHERS!
