2007 Two Team Theme League - ndowdy up w/pk #6

Postby pkwmati » Tue Sep 02, 2008 10:00 am

Anyone ready for a 2007 two-team league. Two round serpentine team draft (state lottery – low to high) followed by a two-round serpentine supplemental draft of players from undrafted teams in reverse order of the team draft. [b:4460242758]Waivers 5-10-20.[/b:4460242758] Your supplemental drafted players cannot be cut during the pre-season but can be traded to another owner at any time (of course usual Strato trade deadline in effect)

Lets make it $[b:4460242758]100[/b:4460242758]M, DH, must play in the stadium of either of your two teams, team name must include both of your teams, typical SOM roster restrictions (24-28).

Let me know if I missed anything obvious.

I haven't participated in a theme league like this so I have a couple questions -

1. If we draft two full teams (for example, say New York Yankees and Oakland A's), you note that no transactions other than trades are allowed during the season. Would you want to allow free agent drop/add within the two team rosters you draft? If there is an injury or non-performance, maybe you want to drop a Travis Buck for a Mark Kotsay. It seems like having control of the full roster and keeping 24-28 active is a good major/minor type of set up, with salary cap considerations controlling things as well.
2. Can you explain the team name, using the two teams noted?

Thanks in advance. It sounds interesting, I just would want to have some flexibility beyond trades, within my two selected team rosters.

Some other suggestions:

1. Bump it up to $100M to make things slightly more interesting, and yes, definitely allow roster moves other than trades. Another option is to make it a $200M league, but you have to keep $100M cash available through game 120. It's like having "September call-ups".

2. If someone selects the Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox and wants to play at Fenway, then have them name the team the "Boston Marlins", with the city of the park they selected as the city name and the other team's nickname as the nickname.

3. Pick an order for the divisions of the teams. 1, 4, 7, 10 in East, etc. usually works.

4. One other possible twist for team selection is that you have to pick an AL and NL team (Yankees and Cardinals), or you have to declare a division and pick and play only in that division without regard to AL/NL (White Sox and Twins or Angels and Rockies).

Just some considerations!!!

Just my opinion, but I sort of like these - especially the $100M cap. #4 I could go with or without. The 'September' call up feature is interesting.

Thanks for the input....I've made the adjustments recommended above.

Also, divisions will 1-4-7-10; 2-5-8-11; 3-6-9-12.

I would want to avoid making the AL/NL restriction.

Anyone ready for a 2007 two-team league. Two round serpentine team draft (state lottery – low to high) followed by a two-round serpentine supplemental draft of players from undrafted teams in reverse order of the team draft. Waivers 80% all season. Your supplemental drafted players cannot be cut during the pre-season but can be traded to another owner at any time (of course usual Strato trade deadline in effect)

Lets make it $100M, DH, must play in the stadium of either of your two teams, team name must include both of your teams, typical SOM roster restrictions (24-28).

So for the 80% waivers, each team can pick within the player list from their two selected teams, correct? Otherwise, you'd lose a bit of the team structure, if it's wide open. Were you going with the 'September' call up concept?

Yes, you will have exclusive rights to the players on your two teams but all players on the undrafted teams not taken in the supplemental draft are ineligible for play.
