2009 cards

With the 2008 MLB season coming to a close, which of your favorite player's cards are you most anxious to see in 2009? Or, who are some of the players who are going to have the most dominant SOM cards in 09? And I know it is a bit early to ask, but when do the new sets usually come out? I am guessing March, is that correct? There is still many 2007 SOM seasons to play, but it is never too early to think about the future(while still enjoying the moment).

I thought the 08 set came out earilier than that. I would think Chipper and Pujols would have great looking cards as well as Cliff Lee, and Tim L. (From SF). SGT D

Card set comes out in January, I believe, with TSN getting the Strat leagues starting mid-March, usually.

My sleepers to have an amazing cards are Aubrey Huff of the Orioles, Xavier Nady of the Yankees, and Jason Bay of the Red Sox. Look at their stats this year!

Definitely some others to watch out for:

Brad Ziegler, OAK
Grant Balfour, TB
Justin Duscherer, OAK



This is just a start of the list of some of the big $$ guys I expect next year.

I believe Strat has the baseball cards out by Feb., but I was wondering when TSN makes the new leagues available. And you answered my question,...thanks!
Being an Indians fan, I can't wait to see Cliff Lee's card. Some others just off the top of my head are:
1. CC Sabahia
2. Ian Kinsler
3. Frankie Rodriguez
And like others mentioned earlier, Aubrey Huff,Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley(big injury chance though) also; Ryan Ludwick, and probably a nice clutch card from Casey Blake who has been the anti clutch in years past. Grady Sizemore(per usual, however he will no longer be a 162 game guy). Shin Soo Choo is currently batting over .300(I will be interested to see his outfield range rating). Kelly Shoppach should have a nice home run card(for a catcher).

Murphy from the Mets should have a great card. His range however is not going to be very good at all....

no offense, but since SOM cards are based off the more raw numbers than wins and saves, those guys I probably wouldn't touch 2 of those with a 10 foot pole.

Really Frankie has has one his worst seasons statistics wise, and he was only a 3 mil RP last 2 years..... Kinsler will make a nice DH I guess, but he was leading 2b in errors, and there is no way he will be better than a 3, and probably a higher injury rating now. CC looks good, but L that are stronger vs L usually don't work out as well, save for the LH leaning parks.


Harden (his numbers are just so superior to everyone, especially the 4th best K rate of all time) as the top of a 5 man rotation.
Furcal, yeah huge injury, but the numbers are great for a SS.
a B Roberts card that is better vs L??
Berkman, should have one of his better cards (SOM though, not always kind to him).

I was just checking Kinsler's stats on ESPN.com, and while he is booting the ball quite a bit (ML leading 18 errors at 2B), he leads the majors by quite a bit in "range factor" for 2B, and is 7th in "zone rating". To me, that would probably make him a 1e20 or 2e20, not a 3. How objective are the defensive ratings? I've heard not very objective at all, but I think the "powers that be" shouldn't ignore those metrics, even if they are somewhat limited.
