Hughson, Any Comments!!!

Postby Ruths ruffians » Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:04 pm

I have nothing but praise for Hughson and I have only used him in pitchers parks, Westside and Sportsman 46. He has been gold for me pretty much every time out and mostly as the #1 guy in the rotation. Has won 20 for me and has never dissapointed. He would be my second choice in nuetral parks behind D.Dean.

It is sometimes hard to judge by record alone. If you have him as your #1, and he is in a league where he is matching up with Pete, Cicotte and the like night after night, his #'s will not be that impressive.

But, if you can get him as your #2 or 3, he is a great pitching value IMO

[quote:4eee5b6a15="PillPop"]I think the logic here is that Hughson is good in a hitters' park because he has no ballpark home runs. He'd be pretty good in a pitchers' park too, of course, but he gains value in a hitters' because of no BPHR's.[/quote:4eee5b6a15]

I agree Pillpop, just do not agree that he is only valuable in a hitters park. but I do agree he is an even BETTERVALUE in a hitters park, because he has no bphr's.... :)

Hughson can pitch well anywhere, he has performed well at LH parks, great value. His OBP is the same as Red Ames, the BPHRs do not hurt too bad and he is an S8. I suspect his price will rise if we ever see ATG III.

Well, I call Hughson "Lil' Pete" if that is any indication. I used him all the time in ATGI, when he cost 8.8 mil, and thought he was a fantastic bargain then. I had to change my pants when I saw his price in ATGII. I rarely play in hitter's parks, and he usually gives me 3-3.5 ERA, often under 3 and once or twice over 4. I've probably used him at least 60 times and often have him in my top three on my draft list.

I love it that he sucks for others. :D I think the secret is to give him copious amounts of German beer... often.

Along with Boyd and Dean (whose price also went DOWN in ATGII), I think he is one of the best pitching bargains in the game.

He's an even better bargain when you enter your keepers...
