Casey Kotchman

I'm curious if anyone has opinions on Kotchman versus Loney -- ignoring the salary difference -- in a pitchers park? Loney's 2e17 is a liability, but does his bat make up for it? That w on Kotchman's left-side sure doesn't help on the road.

I've used Loney before with good results (.295, .356, .437, 15 errors in 542 ABs) in a 2-Team league. I had both LA teams, so the question came up. I chose Loney because I had good OB guys to work with, but not a ton of power.

Kotchman's card numbers: vs. LHP 33.4 Hits, 44.4 OB, 44.2 TB
vs. RHP 24.4 Hits, 39.4 OB, 40.8 TB

Loney's card numbers vs. LHP 32.4 Hits, 44.4 OB, 48 TB
vs. RHP 33.4 Hits, 35.4 OB, 51 TB

These numbers reflect dice roll chances on each player's card(most of you knew that I'm sure, but for the new players).

OB- On base
TB- Total Bases

I did not do homer runs because a lot depends on the ballpark. But Loney obviously has more power. And that is reflected in his higher total bases.

Thanks, but I've run the numbers. If you want to go by the "when to use a slick fielder" method, Kotchman gets the nod ever so slightly in the pitcher's park (Angels Stadium in the case I used above), but what I'm curious about is thoughts on intangibles and perspectives on why to use one or the other.

I've seen Loney used in a number of leagues, and he routinely hits well above .300, anywhere from .310 to .340, and has some power. I see Kotchman used less often, and only rarely is he hitting .300, and without power. I think if you just go by the fact that many more people use Loney, you have your answer. Loney seems to have much more potential.

[quote:d90fab1582="Aray0113"]He's one of the few players with 35 OB + 45 TB on both sides of his card! (sorry Visick!)

I don't worry about that e-rating, either; 1B gets fewer x-chances than other positions.[/quote:d90fab1582]

You're talking about for right field, aren't you?
