My experiment

My experiment

Postby keyzick » Sun Nov 30, 2008 8:59 am

For my own amusement, I finally decided to try a strong pitching, high OBP, pitcher's park team. Now, I'm sure dozens of you have done it multiple times with success, so would love to hear any feedback.

Whenever I've tried to do a team like this in past seasons, I typically chicken out and start pulling in some HR guys, disrupting the whole strategy. Anyway, off to a decent start in the first week of season...any care to venture on my team's outlook for the year?

Looks good key.

Couple of observations...

1. I'd still like to have a BIG slugger on this team. Someone who can cause damage in a hitting park.

2. As good as some of your hitters are, you've got alot guys with < 600 PA's. That could come back to haunt u.

3. I'd prefer to have 1's up the middle.

4. I know it's early in the season, but you gotta get Marmol more innings. Maybe setup/close BOTH ways?

Thanks Vis -

I actually don't have Marmol on my team, so kinda tough to get him innings! Are you sure you linked to my team?

The < 600 PAs has already bitten me once, as I had 4 OF's on the DL for one series.

I originally had Hudson instead of Pedroia at 2B, but figured Pedroia gets more basehits, which I need without a legit slugger. As you say, I feel like I need one too, but not sure where to turn...it's the bugaboo I always fall victim too.

hehehe

I just feel better with a 1 somewhere up the middle in a pitching environment.

I just won the Tour 5 event in a pitching park with McDonald @ SS.
Had Kendrick @ 2B and Granderson in CF. (AL league).

Just like the great D somewhere in there...

For pitchers parks I use markp65's guidelines for hitters.

[i:3ea404436e]1. High percentage of SLG from 2B and 3B rather than HR[/i:3ea404436e] - you've got tons of XBH's. 400 doubles is not out of reach.

[i:3ea404436e]2. High OBP, but from BA rather than walks[/i:3ea404436e] - I translate this (geekor's idea) into having a lineup that averages (vs. RHP) at least 30 hits and 40 OB. You are at 31 and 41.

[i:3ea404436e]3. * steal rating - to avoid GDP, NOT to steal[/i:3ea404436e] - you have 5 of these guys

[i:3ea404436e]4. Highest clutch rating[/i:3ea404436e] - Redman and Martinez; Pearce vs. LHP

[i:3ea404436e]5. Lowest incidence of GBA[/i:3ea404436e] - Lots of rally killers. 6 players with more than 17 chances.

As long as I'm namedropping, marcus wilby, in this thread, suggested that WHIP in a pitching park should come mostly from BB's. I load up on walks and keep hits low.

I am in your league, so I will get to keep a close eye on your team, and meet you in the playoffs. The combo of Moylan and Corpas is filthy, dirty, nasty in a good way, Good luck!

Good Pearce not so good Davis

Postby STEVEPONEDAL » Sun Nov 30, 2008 3:52 pm

I haven't had that good of luck with R Davis in multiple tries. If you can sacrifice a little D against LHPs then I get good results with Murton and Ford.

\\I am trying Green out at 1B/RF for the 1st time to see how that goes.

I can't say to much more since I am drafting in a league with RMilter. Needless to say I am in for a good butt-kicking so I don't want it o be much worse by spilling to much jhere

Basically 30BB chnces and 7 Hit chances on both sides of his card. No BPHHRs which I know you like.
