Competition for TSN in SOM Online????

http://www.strat-o-matic.com/sphere/somdelay.htm

"...Additionally, Strat-O-Matic has executed a contract with a major sports company to assist in the development of some of its’ internet products. The importance of this agreement is that it will allow Strat-O-Matic to attract more customers, which will allow the company to achieve growth that will eventually enhance the Strat-O-Matic product line. "

Any idea who this is? Would they consider going multi-player online?

Is this TSN or a competitor :?:

I can't believe that SOM would come up with a competing product at a different website. I don't think that would be in the best interest for TSN or the "other" website.

maybe it's not baseball? A lot of us have been clamoring for football to come back, maybe SOM found someone else to release it?

That is actually why the AI in the game is named HAL, it's not a [i:3eea569bb6]2001: A Space Odessey[/i:3eea569bb6] reference, even though it seems like it most days.

Yes what you say is very true. But the real Hal Richman is actually a genius and an American hero. He had some help designing the A.I for his CD-ROM games, but he is pretty much solely responsible for the invention of the original cards and dice game that the computer game is derived from. And he was a mere boy when he came up with the concept. Sure there are some flaws in the computer managing department, but the game still rocks. And I believe they make things better almost every year. We may sometimes curse computer Hal, but the real Hal should not to be blamed.

Totally agree with RMilter, the SOM game model is remarkable, particularly when you look at when it was developed. You can throw CPU at any statistical model now a days and come up with a decent simulation (see OOTP baseball, Action PC sports), but if you consider when SOM was introduced, you really have to acknowledge Mr. Richman and his design. The fact that it still stands up today against the competitors speaks volumes. Really a brilliant concept.

I'm an avid sports game fan, and I've probably played most of the popular ones, SOM baseball is still my favorite.
