Online Strat Football

Online Strat Football

I used to play a lot of strat football (board and card game) in the 80's. Is there a online version of football like we have here with the baseball game? Has there been much discussion on this between SportingNews and Stratomatic? I think it would be a lot of fun.

TSN did have an online Strat football gamea few years ago, but while it had it's supporters, it had some problems that others didn't like and thus was not very popular. One of the biggest being no playoffs.

Board game wise, I MUCH prefer the football game to the baseball, but TSN's version didn't translate the board game experience very well.

That's too bad. I always enjoyed the football board game better as well. The 80's had some fun teams, QB's like Montana, Marino, Elway, etc.

I was not around for TSN's version(it was before my time here) however I played the board game from the late 70s through the late 80s. And since then I have picked up the CD-ROM version. I average one 16 game replay a week during football season. I would play TSN, SOM football in a heart beat. I would also recommend the CD-ROM. And furthermore if anyone is interested at a shot at the title,.. just tell me the day, and time and I will meet you on-line. Both parties have to posses the seasons' teams that you wish to play. I have the All Time Great Teams, and the following seasons 1979,1986, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, with more on the way. Have fun!

I remember playing it. You played a Quarter a night then you could make your adjustments. It was fun and frustrating at the same time. I went at least 3 games where no of my settings would work. The draft was long because you had to draft a WHOLE Team not just starters. I wish it would come back and yes it made no sense with no Playoffs. SGT D

Strat's football is tops, hands down.

I've always preferred it to their baseball (first season was 1983...classic). The online game was pretty cool, actually. At least you got to make in-game adjustments as opposed to once every series. They really flubbed the playoffs part, but also the number of teams per league as I recall.

TSN would make tons more $ off me if they worked those kinks out :D

I played about a dozen seasons of TSN's strat football game. I really liked it despite there not being playoffs but there was one really big problem with the game that caused it to fail. I know this because I organized an entire league of my friends to play a season and to a man they all had the same complaint about the game and never played it again. It was the same complaint I had but I have the type of personality that kept trying to conquer my problems with the game instead of quitting.

Anyway, the problem was that you were given a number of sliders to adjust how often you ran the ball, passed the ball, blitzed, etc. This part was nice because it gave you the illusion that you controled the team. The problem was that there was no explanation in the game to tell you if you moved a slider to +5 what did that do exactly? Increase blitzing from 5% of the time to 50%? So many people didnt understand how to use the sliders and got frustrated because they set the sliders to accomplish something and it inevitably didnt pan out the way they expected.

To the very end, I still never figured out what effect those sliders had even though I toyed with them continuously. I would set all of my sliders at 0 except for one of them and then adjust that one slider up and down to see what happened but I think the sample sizes were so small that it was too tough to tell. If TSN had given a thorough explanation of the sliders affect on the game it would have made a huge difference in frustration levels for the participants.

Just my two cents. Maybe Geekor, WWetz and few others that I remember playing the game with can add to this thread.
