Novie, I understand your reasoning for being upset about the way the rules have played out, but at this point we can't stop. I think the only logical thing to do is to have the people who don't have 1's at certain positions use a 2 with the fewest errors. Just my .02

the other thing that will help is if everyone looks at the positions they don't have covered and identifies every available 1 rated fielder. If you get to the point where only one of those players is left, announce it here on the board so no one else takes that player.

Novie, I too understand your frustration and hate that the rules will not be consistent for every team. Everyone that declares a "rule" for their season needs to do the research necessary to make sure that all teams can comply. That said, I think we're in too far to scrap the season. I believe if a team can't field a 1 defensive player, then a 2 with least errors will have to sufffice. All of our teams have some major holes and unbalanced lineups. I, for one, will proably be starting a nickel catcher and my starting 3rd baseman will be Dave Brain...who in the world is Dave Brain? Depending on the way the rest of the draft goes, I may be forced to cut Hank Aaron because his salary is high and even though he is a 1 defensively, I have OFs that are 1's and the 80 salary cap may cause me to cut him. The rule was not kind to me and I'm sure others are struggling with it, but I'm for getting on with it.

I have to agree with Marge on this one. I've uncovered enough 1s to make a roster, but almost all of my starters will cost $4M or more. Because of the $80M cap, I'm probably going to have to dump Hartnett and Santo and/or go with Monday in center instead of Dawson in order to fund a pitching staff.

Let's all be adults about this, bite the bullet and get on with the season. We all get a chance at setting the rules, and I guarantee someone's either going to get screwed or upset every season.

Just want to make sure for the record, as to how I assess this.

First, my initial frustration came from my particular circumstance... after realizing that I had missed some options, I'm now completely ok with it. Having the Yankees for this season is disappointing, but oh well.

Where I stand right now is that this has turned into a clusterf*ck. You have two teams that can't even comply with the dominate rule of the season... defensive ratings at all positions. It's inexcusable to me that this was not looked into and addressed long before now. If this were a one-time league, it would be fixed or managers would be dropping out left and right. We all know that part to be true and can agree on it I assume.

My belief on the resolution of it is this.... everyone should have the option of fielding the same number of "2" rated defensive players... plain and simple. If one team can only field 6 rated "1" players, then all other teams should have the same oppotunity.

Two Options I see:
1. I can stomach the idea that those "2" rated players MUST be the ones with the lowest "e" at their disposal... afterall, there are teams that are STUCK using a "1" player because it is the only option for them.

2. I think it might be fairer to all to let them choose any "2" rated player at their disposal.... ONLY IF everyone else has the chance to do likewise... if not, then they unfortunately need to be STUCK with the lowest "e" player that they can get.

I really need to see a final decision in print before moving on.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Postby AeroDave10 » Thu Jan 15, 2009 4:25 pm

I think allowing everyone to have an equal # of 2s goes away from the concept too much. For those who cannot field a 1 at a position, they MUST play the lowest e-rated 2 at that position. So far, I have only seen two confirmed cases of this:

SS for Cubs48 / As
Solution - Terry Turner 2e19 $1.89M

2B for Pjatscfy / Twins
Solution - Tommy Herr 2e8 $1.74M OR Frank Quilici 2e8 $0.50M

The teams that do not have a 3b or ss with a 1 defensive rating, don't have ANY options. Allowing them to use a 2 with the fewest errors is the next best aternative for the stated rules. If you give all other teams the option of having only 6 "1's" those teams have an advantage because they actually have options or choices. I suppose it would be more fair to say that all teams could use a 2 with fewest errors at ss or 3b...that still gives those teams an option as opposed to the teams that don't have a 1 available. Going to the next best defensive player seems to still be the best alternative.
