This Year's Model: Any Thoughts?

This Year's Model: Any Thoughts?

My new Polo 11 team:

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/atg2/team/team_other.html?user_id=107118&stats=sim

Other parks in the division include Crosley, Fenway 67 and Griffith, so I'm going for a balance of slugging, defense and on-base, and to have some speed so that I have some portable offense.

No Help for you or me

I see that they are ignoring us - you could trade me Eckersley - I'm asking the same about Crosley - we have the most schizo division in MFL history....

Well, you have 2 HUGE offensive liabilities in Cey and Wills. You could get away with one, but 2 is a bit much. I do not see anyone much better at SS, but check out J.Collins at 3B...has a nice card, much better than Cey

I'd keep Cey over Wills since Wills has W power. I've only used Cey in Veterans '77, and he had a nice season for his price and it's less of a hitter's park than Polo.

Couldn't agree with Mike any more strongly. In a $100 mill league in a hitters park, you've gotta have more hitting. You do have many of the right guys, but 3B & SS are gonna bring you down quite a bit.

Plus, I'd throw all LHP's at you and take away a good chunk of your power since the only guy you have who hit's LHP's hard is Ennis (even Freehan's power is better against RHP's).

Yes Coach, ESPECIALLY in a 100 mill league...you cannot have 2 holes like that in Polo....

Thanks for the input. The players I have are the best available after the draft and waivers, so this is it. The big flurry in player movement was this afternoon it seems while I was taking my grandmother to the Dr., so I missed out on some opportunities there after a very quiet weekend. I do appreciate your thoughts, though.

Cey is the next closest thing left to Bando, who I usually use but lost in the draft. Collins, I seriously don't get what anyone sees in him. No power and low on base for such speed, plus a 15-game risk. Boyer is available now, but beyond my means to aquire.

Wills can steal bases, which makes him not as completely inert as an offensive presence despite his awful OBP, vs any other SS available. Maybe Peckinpaugh for the 1 at the same money, we shall see.

I know about the lack of RH power on the team, but again, there just isn't anyone available to help, at least that I can afford without weakening the team further somewhere else.

Simply put, everybody got to the good players at the key positions positions before I could, and that's that. That is really all there is to it, I know the players I want, and did not get them. What you see is what I pulled together during and since waivers. Drafted Mays #1 and fell to Speaker because I guess others took Snyder and DiMaggio in the first round too(Mantle went undrafted, but I was 7th in waivers, so that wasn't going to happen). And so on. One of these days, I will find a way to build a team that scores runs, somehow. The wait til next year banners will be coming out early this season, it seems.

This team could be better, suggestions/ideas:

Don Money or Boyer at 3B

Pecker at SS if you want a glove, Bush would have a good OBP, but you may not want the erros as you have 2 high OBP guys in Morgan and Speaker

Milt May at C with a good glove backup

Split up Hubbell, have 4 > $5M SPs, Speer in a $100M league will have a 7+ ERA, Maybe Root, Hughes, Gibby, Rogers, lots of options.

Lose 2/3 of Dreis, Burbun or Anderson. HAL will use them and it will not help you. In Polo you can win late, but when these guys pitch, forget about it.

Quis or Orosco as your 3rd RP.

Get to 13 fielders

Get J Alou or G Burns to platoon McCovey in pitchers park vs LHs. Burns could also platoon for Coop if LHs are killing you, pick him up.

Here is your lineup, just ran some numbers:
May
Coop
Morgan
Money or Boyer
Pecker
Rickey
Tris
Ennis
McCovey/Alou

SPs
Summers
Gibby
Key
Root

RPs
Eck
Nelson
Orosco

Tweak the SPs based upon RH/LH count in division.

Best of luck, sschu

I would take Peckinpaugh over Wills every day of the week.
Better obp, better D.

Also, despite the inj. risk, I would dump Freehan and get Seminick. He always hits well for me, and he is similar defensively while with a MUCH better obp, slg, etc. And since you can't lose two C at the same time, Tebbets might not be a bad backup.... even Lance Parrish for the extra D.

I would play Steinfeldt OR Dykes OR a platoon with Money and someone else rather than Cey.
