My worst season-long slumps:
Bill Killefer backed up Carter and then Parrish after a trade, limiting him to only 23 AB, .087 avg. - 2 for 23.
Killefer backed up Parrish in another season and was 3 for 30 (.100).
Killefer backed up May once with 12 for 83 (.145) season.
But, for a larger sampling, Frankie Crosetti backed up Honus on a team and went 20 for 123 - .163
But I love both guys for their glove off the bench.
One last all glove, no hit scenario:
Frank White hit .172 in 238 AB as my primary 2B after a midseason roster shuffle. I can only imagine how bad that team would have been had Koosman not won 20 games, Eck saved 33 and the staff as a whole hurl a 3.76 era and 1.29 whip at Tiger '84.... yeach... Mathews only hit .255 on that team...
