That Joey Pepitone is a helluva ball playa. And he has a good glove too.

My favorite Joe Pepitone Story is when he was drunk, crashed his car in the Midtown tunnel and then resisted arrest.
"I'm Joe Pepitone!" he shouted, as officers tried to restrain him.

He is also the first ballplayer to carry a hair dryer on road trips.

What does all this mean?
Joe Pepitone is an alcoholic narcissist.

Loved Pepitone when he played for the Cubs in the early 70's.In retrospect looking at his stats in various stratomatic sets I guess he wasn't quite as good as I thought. Good ball player, but somehow at the time I thought he was great.

A lefty-first baseman with a good glove and power -- he was tailor made for the REAL Yankee stadium. I don't think anyone noticed him with Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and the rest around. What a great infield they had: Boyer at 3rd, Kubek at SS; Richardson at 2B; and Pepitone at 1B. Throw in Mickey in centerfield, Elston Howard or Yogi behind the plate, and a couple of hard-hitting outfielders, and, voila!

Yogi pretty much fizzling out by the time Pepitone arrived in 62 He had semi-great years in 63 and 64 and then the Astros trying to fix the Cuellar for Blefary fiasco got him for Blefary before the 70 season Not sure what happened Was on a pace to hit 30 HR playing half his games in the Astrodome when they traded him to the Cubs Probably his free swinging batting(and off the field) MGR Harry Walker did not like but then again if anybody would have been able to hit instead of walk in 69 the Astros may have won the division
