[quote:e614333faf="Palmtana"][quote:e614333faf="wachovia07"]I think the easiest way to calculate split chances is multiply the numbers together, then take half.
examples: (below, note that a 7 roll equals 6, and a 10 roll equals 3)
a 1-9 on 7 would be 9 times 6 = 54, half is 27, answer is 2.7
a 1-16 on 7 would be 16 times 6 = 96, half is 48, answer is 4.8
a 1-14 on 10 would be 14 times 3 = 42, half is 21, answer is 2.1
a 1-3 on 10 would be 3 times 3 = 9, half is 4.5, answer is 0.45
once you get used to this, it becomes second nature[/quote:e614333faf]
Someone posted this method on the boards a few years ago so that's how I do it. I usually play pitcher's parks so I count the double/triple chances of players I'm interested in. But I can't remember why the product is divided by 2. :?[/quote:e614333faf]
Because the 1-9 or 1-16 is out of 20 chances. Since at the end you are dividing by 10 (21 = 2.1), you also need to divid by 2 somewhere to get the number of chances (2*10=20).
