Sporting News is Killing Strat Online

Postby EDWINCOX » Mon Mar 23, 2009 6:19 pm

It seems to me that The Sporting News is being extremly stubborn with their unwillingness to lower the price of the Strat leagues. With the amount of people out of work and the unemployment rate through the roof you would think that to keep Strat going they would make it more affordable for people, but the price hasn't changed one bit since the economy went to crap. There are fewer and fewer leagues forming and they take WAY too long to start because not enough people who want to play can afford it. Online Strat is a fun game but it is just going to die like the rest of our economy for the same greedy reasons that so many companies are going belly up, stubbornness!!!

Actually, they haven't raised prices since the game's inception for the 2001 season and have offered discounted 200X prior years, free trial offers and 1986 plays as well as the "get one free" five pack deals, so there isn't much to complain about.

Where else can you have so much enjoyment for $25.00? A season lasts 54 days. That's about 46 cents a day. If that is too much, a 5 pack makes it about 37 cents a day. In Oct. of 2008 they offered 5 packs for $79.95. That's 29 cents a day.

I thiink Sporting News does a good job with the product. Obviously I wish the prices were lower, but it is worh it. And the older years are half price.

a month to fill a public league is rediculus

Postby JOSEPHNEY » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:00 pm

i don't mind the price, its worth it for almost 2 months of fun,but my complaint is i entered a 2007 league march 2,i then called 2 old friends i havent seen in about 20 years who use to play the board game with me as kids, they both bought in for there first team and joined my public league,so thats 3 of us,its now march 24 and there is still a spot left open in the league, waiting a month to start is game is the rediculus part, and i'm soley resonsible for getting 2 other newbie managers in the leauge, without me that league would go 5+weeks before it started, thats not right,if there is no demand for the 2007 season(and i would say there isnt based on it took 8 others managers 4 weeks to join a league and its still not full then scrap that season,i would of left the league but it's too hard to get my other 2 friends in the league on the same page at the same time(meaning it took alot just to get us all in this league)

You're a victim of wanting to play to close to the new card set. It's always tough for leagues to fill after January. most of us are burned out on the current set and anxiously awaiting the new one. That's all.

I think I am done with strat thru sporting news after my 4 teams finish.I don't like the inability for strategy i.e. lefty vs lefty in late innings ,or I had runners on 1st and 3rd 1 out bottom of the 8th down 5-2 and my guy on 1st a B stealer tries to steal 2nd is thrown out rally over.I am just going to go back to playing strat on my computer against the computer at least I can use some kind of strategy ,I have 9 seasons now I will pay the $20 for a new season probably 1985 and take 1 team from each league to manage for the full 162 game schedule and see how I do
