Feway '67 advice needed

Postby terpfan61764 » Thu Mar 02, 2006 5:15 pm

Is this a good team setup for Fenway??? Trying to learn as I go. Waiver period just ended so I have time to fix before the season starts. A lot of high $$ players with a lot of low $$$... not much middle ground. Not sure if this is a good idea.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The classic method to build a good Fenway 67 team is cheap starters and a strong pen. Vuckovich, Ruether, Speer and Bagby Jr are some low cost options. Koufax and Scott are not a good fit due to the BP HRs on their cards.

Your offense also needs a lot of work. Mantle, Ripken and perhaps Bench are the only starters I would keep. Some may like a table setter such as Gwynn, but I prefer to maximize home runs throughout the lineup.

Not sure where you are going with this team, you have $28M tied up in pitchers that would not be considered good fit for Fenway due to BPHRs. Gooden is seldom used and you have no pen.

If you want big $ pitchers, Camnitz, Cicotte, Pfiester and Brown are available. There are a host of $7M guys and others such as Leifeld, Mayer or Rogers.

The wire is pretty thin for hitters, but candidates include Gordon, Foxx, Money, Ennis.

RPs to consider are Baum and Lyle.

Best of luck, sschu

Wasn't sure where I was going with that team either. Thanks for your advice I've made a few changes getting rid of the super high $$ pitchers and upgrading the bullpen as well as adding another power hitting outfielder.

I play in fenway quite a bit, and have had good success.

Do not spend alot on sp's...they will not last long, no matter who they are, unless you get the 10 mill plus guys...and if you do that, why play in fenway?

go with 7 starters at least, my favorites are

Vuckovich
Sanderson
Vance
Speer
Frock
Ruether
Cvengros
Yerkes

You get the idea, cheap sp's with few if any bphrs, nice assortment of lefty/righty for matchups, and then a solid , but inexpensive pen..guys like

garber
lefferts
staley
murphy

etc...again, little or no bphrs...

then....LOAD UP ON OFFENSE!! After all, that's why you chose fenway right...TO SCORE RUNS!!! :) :)

Mantle, although GREAT, is overkill here imo...look for Gorman Thomas, great bphrs, only 5.88 mill. Ripken is great, no prob there, bench is ok, but will no doubt disappoint, (he usually does!)

agree with above, you want LOTS of POWER!! I like guys like

Thomas, Mays,
Yount,Ripken
Bando, Mathews
Morgan, Gordon
Gedman
Gehrig (LOVE him here!)

But guys with LOTS OF POWER!! I do like a good leadoff hitter to like Morgan

Here are a couple of my Fenway teams...
