Site still Slow/Results getting Later & Later

Postby Jeepdriver » Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:44 am

I really don't like to complain, but I've held this in for a while now.

The site continues to be VERY slow. Yes, I realize there's no problems on certain browsers like Firefox. That's no excuse, however. Your site should be running smoothly regardless of what OUR browser is. It's hugely frustrating.

Secondly, the results at night continue to get later and later. It's got to where it gets to 1am ET and several leagues still haven't ran. One of my great pleasures was looking at scores/results before I went to bed, but 1 or 1:30am is too late. "If" there's a problem wherein this is the way it will be from now on, tell us. The last communication from yall concerning times games would play was very positive saying results were going to be sooner, you all had made huge strides in games being run timely. If something has changed, let us know. Don't just let this happen without any kind of explanation.

Once again, I'm not complaing hugely here, yes a little, but I feel it's warranted. I pay a lot of money and have done so since this games inception. I don't want to spend half my time waiting for pages to load and getting results at 1:15am when I was told a while back they would be in 12:15 or 12:30am at the latest.

Bernie, you do a good job. But, these issues are important to us. Can we expect any improvements?

Thamks, Jeep

P.S. It's almost time for me to begin several theme leagues, but with things running as they are now I may have to discontinue them. I really don't want that to happen, but things are real frustrating.

You can always do what I do and go to bed earlier so you can wake up early and look at your scores. I never have to worry about when the games run unless there is some major server malfunciton at TSN.

I stay up late to check the games as well. I'm in central time and it has been taking longer and longer for the games to run. A couple of times it has gone past midnight before they have run. Last night was especially slow.

I don't have any speed issues with this site however. In fact, I am on dial-up and this is one of the, if not the fastest loading site of all the pages I visit.

Also, having worked in the field before, I could say that from perspective of the people running the website, as long as it works fine for most people (ex: Only specific browsers, or only people in a certain area, or perhaps even only at certain times of the day) there is a very high chance it is not the fault of the website. In cases like this there are so many possible causes and diagnosing and fixing the problem is not as easy as you may think.

Jeep, regarding the site being slow to you, the only thing I can think of is that right now is the start of the (real-life) baseball season, so there is a much higher level of traffic coming to our servers than normal, but it does fall off precipitously as the novelty of opening day/weekend wears off. From what I can see, our main baseball developers have been dealing with certain technical issues related to the start of the season, so that may explain some slowness. If your slowness persists past this week, we'll definitely need to address it.

As for the nightly league processing, I wasn't aware that it was taking longer. That's somewhat of a surprise to me. But I'll definitely be looking at that.

They stay in the outbox until read, they aren't "stuck" there, they are in the outbox and in your recipeitns inbox at the same time.

Once the message is read it gets moved to your sentbox. This is how you know if a PM has been read or not.

It's also why I prefer PM's for trade negotiaitions.

Noooooo problem. :D It also affords you the oppurtunity to delete the PM before it's read, if needed. You should be able to edit it as well, but that never works for me and gives me a error message every time I try to do it.

Of course since the late running games are getting looked into this evening, this'll be the night where everything runs smoothly and quickly. =)

Nope. Games ran late. However, the web pages load just fine for me, and I even use Firefox. No delays at all.
