Hey Big Apple Fans....

I am embarrassed for all Yankees and Yankee fans. If I was an employee, player, or fan of the Yankees I would burry my head in the sand. Can you imagine having 2,3, or even 4 times as much money to spend as your opponent and not win 120 games and the World Series every year??That is the biggest joke in the history of sports. I do not hate the Yankees, I pity them!

[quote:c7b4b1c0b1="mfsleeze"]...I'll save us all time and post your obvious response:

"If I could spend $300 million on a team I could make the World Series 25% of the time"

And my response:

If you could generate the income necessary to have a $300 million payroll while remaining wildly profitable and were not constrained by any rules preventing you from doing so, you'd be a bad business owner if you did not spend that much.

In other words, don't hate the player, hate the game.[/quote:c7b4b1c0b1]

If baseball was a fringe sport to me, I wouldn't follow it. The discrepancy in salaries is a travesty. However, I've grew up loving baseball all the way back to the 60s.

My team today, the Colorado Rockies, is as much a source of frustration as of pleasure. We have suffered for years listening to our cheap owners say they are going to grow our talent at home because we can't compete on the free agent market. So we develop a genuine superstar in Matt Holiday. Contract renewal time comes up and guess what? We can't afford him. He's gone.

Tell you what. I know what will make me feel better. I'll start a $200 million TSN league. Except everyone else is limited to a random amount between $50 (less?) and 90 million. Only I get $200 million to spend.

I'm just glad the Yankees are in the American League. And truthfully, I can't even bring myself to hate the Yankees, but that doesn't mean the system doesn't suck.

First and foremost Major League Baseball NEEDS the Yankees to have a winning product. They make them MONEY and LOTS of it. Don't kid yourself that they DO NOT. They put fans in the stands, create controversy because of the money they spend. If they win it all its b/c of the money they spent. If they lose they should have won b/c of the money they spent. Yankee Haters whether the Yankees Win or Lose have something to RANT about. But the Yankees do play by the rules. They dish out tons of money to the Teams that do not have the revenue streams that they have available and thats b/c your teams DO NOT put forth the same effort that the Yankees do in getting those revenues. I know NY is the Biggest Market for them to get those revenues. Can not argue that. But on smaller scales they are there in other Cities as well. And what do the OTHER teams Owners do when the Yankees write out those BIG checks for the other teams. They Pocket it for there Country Club bill instaed of trying to HELP there Franchise. I pity all those OTHER teams for not trying or CARING to win for themselves of there Fans. I could continue with this but there are those that will SEE what they want to SEE and thats it. In finishingg all I have to say is that I can at least know that My team the Yankees has a chance just about every YEAR of having a winning team that has a CHANCE to Win it All. I will take that everytime regardless of how much my team spends to WANT TO WIN. If the fans of other Franchises are content on HOPING for a .500 record PITY them.

Frank has a great point here guys. (Those some paragraphing would make it easier to read).

How much $ have the Yankees given to other teams? Whether directly or when they come to town and their stadium fills up?

What do the owners do with this $ then?

All good points.

And FWIW- I'm not a Yankees fan. I love the Mets.

I whole heartedly disagree with the idea baseball would not succeed without the Yankees being the major story every year. It just is not true. How come the NBA and NFL have the degrees of success that they have without ANY New York teams being a factor??? The minute you start to believe things are the way they are because they HAVE to be, you have closed your mind to many, many options!

Hey Yankee fan, do not give up now,...a couple of touchdown passes and you are right back in this game. What is it about the Cleveland Indians and their tiny payroll that makes them beat you like you stole something every other year? Remember 22 to 0? Who could forget?
