Spring of 69 - DRAFT COMPLETE - LEAGUE LOADING E to W

Our historical single season sets

Postby GFDWARF07 » Mon May 04, 2009 1:40 pm

As discussed in the thread above, this time around we will be a $100M cap league - you have to be at the $100M cap each day at game time - i.e. the sum of all your roster players' salaries had to be $100M or less at game time.

However, we will be set up within the Sporting News SOM website as a $200M league. This enables you to add/drop players per the usual rules throughout the season (up to game 142) essentially without penalty (where normally you only get 80% credit for dropping a player, here you essentially get 100% credit).

So it helps managers add/drop players and use the free agent pool as a farm system. Just be aware that all owners have equal access to free agents.

Last time we had a straight $200M league. This structure also prevents issues with imbalanced trades.

Does that make sense Gordie? Nice pick on Palmer, btw.

So LMB said in a few words what I said in many - are there points for efficiency? :)

Chico Escuela?

Not sure but the gal on the left is clearly international singing sensation Jewel. And the guy on the right is you, maybe?

Gimme a hint

strike one! Here is a hint. He is a higher priced hitter in the 1969 game, so no its not Bob Gibson either.

No that is not me in the picture. Its just a pic I found on the web.

Need another hint?

Guess - Rico Carty?

If so - an interesting Rico story - my sister met him in Tuscon where he was doing some kind of nightclub act with Mudcat Grant (or at least was in attendance) and he tried to pick her up and from what I understand was quite insistent (although very nice). So a few months later I was at Met Stadium for a Twins-Indians game (I was maybe 13 or 14) and I hollered to Rico and told him he met my sister in Tuscon - he said "oh, yeah", like he remembered (probably one of 100+ women from his seven days there). And I responded, now fully engaged in a conversation with Rico Carty, "hey Rico, how about a ball?". He was warming up in the outfield, about 60 yards from me. He looked at the ball he had just caught as if to assure it was in poor enough condition to throw to me, then threw a sinking hard toss to me. Of course I had my glove, but it really kept sinking and I had to reach way down over the rail to catch it, but did! And I got a nice cheer from those watching.

So Rico was henceforth a favorite! (even if he has a pea shooter for an arm in '69).

Understood, Gfdwarf07. Thanks for the compliment. I'm a little hesitant to take guys from my 70-92 team, but there they are on my team.

You got it. That is Rico Carty. Well if you like this guessing game I'll continue. I just didn't want to bombard you guys with this if you didn't like it.

Here is one with lots of hints. You see a team and a position and it is a contemporary close up pic so you might recognize him better. Now don't go looking on the White Sox roster of players in the 1969 game because you won't find him there. That would be way too easy.
