SOM Pricing Reform

Postby ROBERTLATORRE » Wed May 27, 2009 10:13 pm

We have credit card reform, mortgage and lending reform, TARP, bail outs, tax relief....

Is it time to recognize the state of the economy and ask SOM to provide some relief to their customers with some price discounts or reductions?

What does the SN SOM Community think?

Maybe a survey with a lot of responses will help our cause :-)

Of course any kind of sale or discount would prompt me to purchase more credits. Probably even more than I would normally, and definitely more than I could afford. But I still think the price is reasonable, however I know more of my friends would play if there were more discounts or sales.

Supply and Demand....if they're still meeting profit margins, why would they want to change it?

Are you going to teach us basic economics? Nah, I am just kidding, but why give the guy a hard time, he is just proposing an idea. And besides, more customers are always needed in most any business, and especially this one, which has kind of a cult following at best. We all want to see TSN make money and stay around, the question becomes could they make more money by lowering prices or having periodic sales? I see no harm in discussing it.

keyzick is a good guy, I know he's offering an opinion.

The rate of leagues filling is way down, and I'm confident SN has recouped the cost of hardware and development many leagues ago.

At this point their costs should be very limited. The servers and bandwidth are likely clustered with the rest of the business systems servers and other internet-facing applications, as should backup and operations tasks. You've seen the limited functionality that get's added so development costs are minimal. Adding new card-sets should nothing more then a database import at the worst. Running the sites should be a fixed cost that is a small part of a much larger SN recurring systems expense.

Why would they change it? Smart businesses should always look to increase the customer base and/or sales volume. A minimal price reduction or discount program would stir significant interest in the current customer base and drive up sales. At least it would for me. Businesses that keep their model static in this economy will have less success then businesses that adapt and take action to actively pursue customers.

Just my 2 cents

Seems like it's about time to make the 2006 game $12.50 like '03-'05.

Hmmm...good point.

If the '03-'05 games are running at $12.50, that should be a pretty good indicator that they are profitable at that price point, hence the other games would also be profitable at a lesser price point.

Price reduction

Postby xoxothis » Thu May 28, 2009 4:47 pm

All for it, one guy wondered if they were still making their profits why would they change? Well my answer would be for the possibility of a player strike if enough guys had the, for lack of better word, balls to follow through which I would be willing to do. Ive already sent in a suggestion for half credits for the losers of the semi-finals, but was shot down. But to sum it all up, yes price reduction would equal my purchase of additional teams and I did vote for it. Thanks for bringing it up whose ever responsible for the mutany lol! :x

i am all for the price break. I also think it would be nice to buy a 5 pack for 80 and be able to use it for any game. Not just the 70's or 80's or 69. (atg/2008/86 are all in one) they all should be all in one 5 packs.

I know if you email them they will move a credit.

Economic Reform

Postby PracticalDoc » Thu May 28, 2009 8:35 pm

TSN has got to be taking in less money overall. Their paper subscriptions have got to be down, and the SOM income has got to be down too. A price reduction might encourage some players who are sitting on the sidelines and might tempt those of us who are considering cutting back on our discretionary spending. I agree most of the costs are now fixed (hardware/software) and thus, the continued cash influx is likely mostly profit.

Thanks for bringing up the issue.
