This is my firstever 200X team, and I have no clue if it is OK or terrible.

any and all advice welcome, especially in regard to some of my more unorthadox situations (like my catchers).

For a first time looks pretty decent. I assume you ready the strategy thread for new players. I would definately get a 2 or better at 2B. I wonder why you would buy 3 closers- but I guess you checked out their cards and like them.

Excellent pitching staff. I would reccomend strongly to change out Grudz at 2B with someone else. I would get a 2 fielder if you can. Grudz is way too injury prone anyway. It is tough trying to put together a decent lineup when you have 3 guys that cost over 7m. You have done a pretty good job with the rest of your team under these circumstances. One option would be to cash in Hafner for 2 or 3 starters. Hafner is very one sided (not that great vs LHP). By cutting him as well as Grudz you could free up enough money to get two very nice players. Just a thought.

ought-oh, just as you were posting that you like my pitching staff, I was changing it. Do you like the new version or the old one?

09/15 No idea What I'm Doing dropped Grudzielanek, Mark
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing dropped Lane, Jason
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing dropped Perisho, Matt
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing dropped Rivera, Mariano
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing dropped Kolb, Danny
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing dropped Burnett, A.J.

09/15 No idea What I'm Doing added Perez, Oliver
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing added Perisho, Matt
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing added Cora, Alex
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing added Bigbie, Larry
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing added Reed, Steve
09/15 No idea What I'm Doing added Nathan, Joe

should I undo the changes that I made?

I basically traded in Burnett for Perez, Rivera and Kolb for Nathan and $$, moved up to Cora at 2B, traded in Lane for bigbie, others were $$ moves.

Is there a specific strategy thread? is it on the old board? I searched the boards for reports on specific players but not a general thread, any help with that would be appreciated.

I've played ATG and 80's, just not 0X games. I have no idea what to make of the closer ratings. I had just grabbed guys who's cards I liked. I've traded in 2 for 1, but kept the other. is that reasonable?

You need a lefty specialist in your bullpen. Someone like Shouse would be good if he is available. He's under 2m and is lights out against LHB. Set him on: avoid RHB, quick hook, not before 7th inn.

As mentioned before, Hafner is a little too expensive for a part time DH. I doubt you will use him much against LHP. I would trade him in for someone cheaper that is a little more even (2R or 2L to E). Lyle Overbay maybe? That would free up some cash for other things.

Cameron will get injured, so you may want to get another OF who can hit lefties. Kapler is a popular choice if he's available. You would want to play him on the corners because of the 4 rating in CF. Speaking of CF, both Cameron & Matos only play CF and they are both injury prone. I would probably dump Matos for a cheap OF that plays all three OF positions.

Just my 2 cents. :D

Good luck!

I still like your pitching. I am not a proponent of lefty or righty specialists. No matter the settings HAL tends to leave them in too long so that they get shelled or not put them in at all when he should. I like 3L to 3R pitchers. I like a few reverse pitchers too!

I still reccomend trading in Hafner for improvement at 1B, LF & DH obviously. Is this a DH league or were you planning to use Hafner as a 1B? You really don't want to play him at 1B. A 5 will kill you.

That is an interesting field you are playing at. I don't think I have noticed that field being used before in my leagues.

I'm used to ATG, where big time L/R bias is rare, which seems to be a common thing in 2005. I picked up Hefner because 11 out of 12 SP's in my division are RH. Also, between my park, his N power, and what I see of his card, I think I can leave him in against lefties. Doesn't look so bad.

I will look around, some names on the FA are:
Pujols,
Rolen,
Walker
Bay, Jason
Hollandsworth
Rowand, Aaron
Guillen, Carlos
Mench, Kevin
Delgado, Carlos
Konerko, Paul

any thoughts about Brad Wilkerson, he could be my 1B and also backup at CF, bats left, adds some speed, would he be a good choice?

Definitely keep hafner and DH him....One of the best! And yes, you can leave him in vs lefties....
