24 team keeper

I understand litangel's concern about "knowing how the players will play during 2010," since that will take us away from trying to guess the future, like in real life, where a manager's baseball knowledge and scouting expertise will give him/her an advantage.

On the other hand, that is always the case during a second season with the same card set. This is already a simulation, though, so maybe it's not an issue, after all. We would all have the same knowledge base, so that would just become one more element of the game.

I do agree with Rant that two seasons with fixed start dates would be best. From scanning the forums, it looks like most keeper leagues draft in late March or early April, right after the new cards come out, and then once again in July or August.

If we want to avoid competing for managers' attention in those time frames, then we still need to find later times in the year -- and with memorable start dates. For example, perhaps we could routinely start the draft on the day after Memorial Day and then the day after Thanksgiving.

Or if conflict with year-end holidays would be an issue, then maybe draft on the 5th of July and the 5th of January?

Like the suggestions of keeping 20- I would even go less. the record keeping nightmare can be somewhat lessened by making it a no-trade league. You have plenty of opportunity to pick up the players you need by picking up 15 to 20 players each year. Just a thought. Everything would be easy to keep track of in a 24 man league.

I really prefer a league that drafts before the season gets going, but I could let go of that if everyone else wants it the other way. I can get that need met in other keeper leagues. However, No trade? No way! That is one reason I do this is for the realistic trading.

Hey, here's one where I can agree 100% with litangel: We gotta allow trades!

If roster-tracking would be such an issue, then I volunteer to take care of that. Also, in real life, I'm a website developer, so I would probably post the full rosters online somewhere for all to see.

No trades = no league IMHO, at least for me. Hell half the reason I play in keepers is because they are the only leagues wher you can actually get a deal done becuase the cap doesn't come into play. Also when you say 20 keepers, what are you refering to?
Do you mean cutting to 20 prior to the draft? I've got a small problem with that I guess, I'd rather make it an option rather than manditory. Something like, you must cut 5 but no more tham 10 from our 30 man rosters from the previuos year. ( I'm assuming 30 is the roster number, not sure if that's in concrete yet either). But why penalize someone for putting togethr a good roster.

I'm against 3 seasons just a waste of money for the bottom teams IMHO.

Also do not want to start until after the cards come out. I'm thinking season 1 in May and season 2 in August or somewhere thereabouts.

I would have to agree with everything niners said. 30 seems like the best size for a roster and May and August are fine with me.

May and August sounds like a great compromise, I am totally down with that.

I like the idea of starting season one as soon as we get enough players (hell...it was my idea for that matter). But, I am o.k. with starting in May if that is the majority.

I also agree: not trades...no league.

It appears mostly everyone seems pretty set on a 30 man rosters max, with a mandatory 5 cuts prior to the spring FA draft with a max of 10 cuts.

I do not like 3 seasons.
