Takes a long time for live draft but sounds like fun
1999 Auction league. Here's how it works:
Auction League, 1999 set, DH. No trades, no FAs. Your 25 is your 25. $200 mill salary cap, $80 mill to spend. Unique ballparks.
We've done this with ATGIV and are doing a second one in ATGIV as well as one in 2008, the auction part takes about six months and as all previous participants (four of them here so far) will confirm, it's not a drag at all, but big fun.
We start with five hitters and three pitchers - the first eight sign-ups will make the first nominations. Bidding starts at a minimum of 10% of the player's value and can be increased in increments of $100K. Any time 24 hours passes without a bid on a player, that player is awarded to the last person that placed a bid and that person makes the next nomination. You have $80 million to spend on the auction though the actual total salary of all players on your team is $200 mill, which is effectively no cap. Ballparks must also be bid on and can be nominated at any time when a pitcher is due for a nomination.
