I also want to confirm my understanding of the auto-draft in this case - we can only draft from our selected team, plus the 2 extra drafted players. Any other players from the extra teams that were not drafted in the 2 round draft would not be available until waivers - along with any other free agent from any team at that point. Is this accurate? I think this was somewhat touched on in the original thread but it may be worth re-stating. I just want to be sure when I can consider picking up non-drafted extra team players and I'm thinking that it is not until waivers.

Argh! I thought I understood the rules and then they slip away from me once again!

In the original rules' post, it says

[quote:a6d2376cc6]Exclusive rights to all players on your carded team's roster until waivers are complete. After waivers have been completed, then any carded player that is not on your roster is now considered a free agent and can be added to any team. [/quote:a6d2376cc6]

but now you say

[quote:a6d2376cc6]No free agents or players that belong to or were drafted or assigned to another team under any circumstance until waivers (when all free-agents are then fair game).[/quote:a6d2376cc6]

Let me pose a specific question and then maybe I'll understand:

I have the Tigers and let's say that I do not include Verlander in my original 25-man roster for some unknown reason.

a. Do I still hold "Exclusive rights" to Verlander "until waivers are complete," as in the original rules? (or)

b. Do I only hold exclusive rights at roster submission and "until waivers (when all free-agents are fair game)?" -- i.e., can someone else pick up Verlander during the automated waiver process if he is not specifically on my roster then?

[b:801350ac81]It's been too long since I wrote the original rules and screwed it up here

see original rules as follows:[/b:801350ac81]

2009 unleashed card set
24 team
$80M
Advanced
DH
Wtd. Waivers
5-10-20%
Real Teams
Integrity and playing by the rules are an absolute must, no exceptions!

Everyone is welcome!

RULE AMENDMENT - TEAMS WILL BE SELECTED BY TEAM DRAFT AFTER RANDOM LOTTERY.

Must only play actual real team's stadiums only - no duplicates or substitutions.

Must maintain a minimum 19 players carded to your original team effective games 1-162 at all times without exception. You may go lower than 19 during the pre-season only.

Divisions are based on a combination of actual 2009 team wins and total team roster payroll.

Partial two round draft for low payroll teams. Round one of the draft is teams 1-17 only. Round two of the draft is teams 1-21 only. Since teams 22-24 (Rockies, Dodgers & Yanks) exceed the $80M cap, they are ineligible for the two round draft and in fact have lost players to the luxury tax. The Braves, Cards, Phils & Red Sox are only eligible for the second round of the draft.

[b:801350ac81]Exclusive rights to all players on your carded team's roster until waivers are complete. [u:801350ac81]After waivers have been completed, then any carded player that is not on your roster is now considered a free agent and can be added to any team[/u:801350ac81]. [/b:801350ac81]

AMENDMENT - Unlimited trades are allowed between any teams involving any players (including carded players) as long as each team must maintain their minimum of 19 carded players to your original team at all times without exception.

Divisions with payroll, draft order and designated additional players to supplement low payroll team.

mbrake's response in "Yes"

I assume that's "yes" to a. - reading the original rules. In tcochran's example, then, Verlander would INSTANTLY become a free agent for anyone to pick up when waivers are COMPLETED - unless tcochran ONLY picks him back up during waivers.

This would mean that during waivers we can only pick up undrafted players from the six excluded teams plus luxury tax free agents - around 135 players.

Personally, I would have preferred "b" in tcochran's example. The potential for at least one of 24 owners inadvertently screwing up waivers (if not first screwing up the 25-man roster) seems to be very high. In "a" when loading our waiver selections, we will need to check "available" players from the six teams plus luxury tax free agents only - rather than in "b" selecting from all "available" players by position.
