2nd base recs?

Anyone have any thoughts on some good 2B value for the 1986 set? Am playing at Stade Olympique...

Good choice, I love Olympic for 86. Here are some olympic teams and how they fared at second base:

Frank White. Don't expect much except good defense. Obviously not a very good park match:

Steve Sax is a monster at Olympic. Probably the best guy to pick if you want some offense there:

Bill Doran. I've seen him put up some good seasons, but this isn't one of them:

Here I even got pretty good production out of a Flannery/Lawless platoon:

2B is a bit of a tough matchup for a total pitcher's park in 86. The best defensive guys (Sandburg, White) are not good matches. I think if you don't get Doran, you are typically better off with a 3 (Sax, Ray, Flannery, Berazard in that order) and getting your defense at the other infield positions and in the OF. Randolph or Herr are OK options as well, but Randolph makes a ton of errors and I think the 3s are a better value.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I really enjoy the discussions on all these boards about value players in different leagues/parks.

I'll see who I get - draft coming tomorrow and then the mad scramble.

Flannery/Phillips was a good platoon for me and Doran did well, too. The best value that I've gotten, though, was definitely Robby Thompson.

I ended up with an Oester/Herr platoon. Not awful considering decent D, but not great. Herr OPS .720 and Oester .650.

My team is 82-59 so something is working ok.

I know your season is probably over by now, but I just saw this thread. In my one foray into 1986, I played at Olympique and used Marty Barrett at 2B with relatively good results.

I have a soft spot for '86. It's my only venture into the playoffs yet. Plus some incredible pitching stats that you don't find in 200x or ATG.

Hope the season went well.
