new theme league - vote for ideas

Postby franky35 » Mon Jun 28, 2010 12:00 pm

We are in need of a new theme league. The previous theme is in the playoffs and the auction league has at least a couple of months of bidding ahead. This thread is to see what kind of league people want. Please vote for themes that you like. Or name new ideas!

1) 80 miilion cap - som draft; Cap is split 50 million for pitching
30 million for batting

2) Rosters must be split equally between AL players and NL players

3) 50 mil cap; plus in reverse owner of standings one free agent pick up at half way mark that is outside the cap.

4) league where each owner adds one rule as they sign up. Rules must be compatible and practical to apply

5) low salary cap league where league starts with a team draft and you have first pick of players on that team; your unselected players become free agents

6) hearts league - modeled after the card game hearts; after the draft is complete, you pass 3 players to a division rival and they need to keep those players on their roster for entire season

7) 25 mil cap, live draft

new league idea "Pick your draft postion"

Postby Rjnewman » Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:04 pm

70 million cap

Draft order driven by choice. Random generator determines your ability to choose your draft pick of top 12 picks driven by mandatory position selection- sepentine by draft pick- 1 gets 24 2 gets 23 12 gets pick 13 etc. So if your random generator gives you third choice and RF pick 3 and Second base pick 8 are already taken you can choose your spot of those left etc.
After first round you can draft anybody at any position.

1. Shortstop
2. First Base
3. Right Field
4. Center Field
5. Third Base
6. Left Field
7. Catcher
8. Second Base
9. Starting Pitcher
10. Relief Pitcher
11. Starting Pitcher
12. Relef Pitcher

Its been just a bit over a day, and the response is overwhelming. Luckily, the poll allows me to keep track of the voting electronically so I don't have to hand count all the votes. Phew!!

Things are still very close and the vote could go any way. So, remember to get your vote in!

i dont think our usual suspects are looking here. Maybe try the old league message board and mention something on prehistoric roto draft board.

I've had a couple of ideas for theme leagues that I wanted to explore:

Geographical League - Each division would be represented by eight of the twenty-four teams (for example, West would be San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, S.F. Giants, Oakland As, Seattle Pilots, Houston Astros and K.C. Royals). There would be three drafts going on simultaneously (and with only four managers in each division, hopefully the drafts would go quicker). Each manager would be restricted to the players and stadiums of the eight teams assigned to their division.

Staying Alive League - 1969 players who are still living would be the only ones eligible to participate (that would exclude all you Woodie Held fans out there).

8-)

7 Come 11 - League Concept

Postby GFDWARF07 » Wed Jun 30, 2010 6:59 am

It's always dangerous to give people too many choices!

Lots of creative ideas here and thanks all for offering them.

Another idea: "7 Come 11" League structure:

1. 24 team, serpentine franchise draft (randomized order)- each owner gets two franchises from this draft.

2. The owner MUST select 7 (and only 7) players from the first of his teams selected and 11 (and only 11) from the second to occupy his roster for the full season.

3. Unselected players make up a free agent pool - but you cannot draft any free agents from your 2 franchises. Free agents drafted via message boards for rounds 19-25 - draft order serpentine, first round opposite of original franchise draft order.

4. 80M Cap

There are some excellent ideas here, but my favorite is the "7 Come 11" idea proposed by gwdarf!

Dan - has this idea been used in other SOM catalogs? It would very intruiging here in the 1969 game.
