On a personal front - good news

On a personal front - good news

I wanted to let everyone know in the community that, after a 2 1/2 year battle and treatment protocol, my daughter has defeated the leukemia beast and is now officially in remission, with a 90-95% chance of no future recurrence.

She is my hero, the way she handled all the ups and downs and visits and minor traumas, beating back an irregular heartbeat and two bouts of pneumonia. When she had blood drawn, she would never even flinch and would be more worried about the color of her bandaid than the needle. She loved going in for the infrequent spinal taps, because she received medicine that helped her forget and she was treated to a hot dog lunch after. She learned how to ride the IV pole like a scooter without tangling the lines. And she never complained.

I'd like to thank those here who expressed their support and offered prayers, and I'd like to thank the incredible team of nurses, doctors, and pharmacists as Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Without them, her health and my sanity would never have been the same. I'm now involved in an annual 150 bike ride to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I'm not soliciting personal donations, but if you are looking for something to support, I would recommend the Leukemia Society or your local childrens' hospital, who have made my daughter's future possible.

Now, it's time to party and celebrate - where's the half barrel?

That's great news! I always love a happy ending. When I'm deciding how to allocate my donation dollars I will definitely include the Leukemia Society.......

I had no idea. That is the best possible news. I remember on my Pediatrics rotation in Med School diagnosing ALL in a 6 year old girl. We had to do repeated lumbar punctures for both diagnostic and treatment purposes. She acheived remission, but that was when I became convinced that there is no God above deciding on a day to day basis these things. It is senseless to me that there would be such things if that were the case. That was also when I decided that I would not be going into pediatrics, fortunately for the world at large. I remember sitting up with my daughter one night when she had the croup. in the bathroom, door closed, steam filling the room, hoping she would continue breathing. There is nothing more difficult to endure than illness in your child. I trust you are euphoric, and you deserve it. And remember, good things come in Treys!

Once they enter your life, there is nothing more important in your life than your kids. You take every step with them and live every illness through them.

Truly great news Trey.

Proves that good doctors are better than HAL any day of the week.

That is wonderful Trey! God bless you and your family!

I have a customer, who has become a good friend, that is going thru that same thing with his 4 year old son. It will be one year ago May 10th when little thomas was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia. He and his family live in Rural Retreat, VA, and he is having his treatments at St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis TN. So this has meant many days and weeks apart (he has twin brothers that are 2 years older than he is). They are a faith filled family, and this has helped to sustain them...but they express the same type of gratitude to the caretakers at St. Judes as you express to the Caretakers for your daughter.

I am so happy to hear this great news Trey! Celebrate, and enjoy every single day with your daughter..they grow up so quickly! :)
