Newbie Help Please

I guess they say you have to know when to ask for help....I no it is early but talk about not scoring at all.....but any advice on this team. Is it too piching heavy?

The only concern I do have is that you are vulnerable to left-handed pitching.

A couple of thoughts..........

After only six games it is too early for me to determine how you have set up your bullpen but you are getting a lot of innings out of low rent players. It is nice to have Andrew Bailey but in an 80 mil league he eats up about 1/12 of your cap and he has yet to throw a pitch. You may need to get him involved more or drop him and share his wealth. Speaking of cap, you still have a couple of mil in cap space that you can use to upgrade. Also, it is not necessary to carry 25 players. Drop one, combine that salary with your remaining cap and upgrade.

Keep in mind that you are playing 81 games in Petco so your original concern about not scoring is a reality of that park. But most importantly, what coyote33 says.....don't panic, there is a lot of season left.

Set Bailey to do it all. Middle, Set up and Close. Set your SP's for F3 at home. They will go deep at Petco. When away use Bailey and set SP's for F5 to F8 depending on who is pitching. Watch the SP, catchers and OF arms to set your running and stealing for each series and set for agreesive or normal. Never set fot exrta as HAL will steal home and run from 1st to home. Look and see if you have players that have A or B for bunt and hit and run and set them to do that. You need to manufacture runs at Petco. When away in a hitters park let them hit. Your team will need you to manage them for home and away so look the other team over and set for that. You have a great team from a Managers point of view. They will need you to spend time every night to set them to win. Good Luck and you will need to make the right moves for them to win.

Actually I kind of like this team. So far you hitting has been horrible, but that will turn around. Like chasenally said above, put Bailey in every role possible. You really want him to pitch every meaningful relief inning he can.

I would look use use my 1.9 Million you have doing nothing to upgrade 3rd Base. Casey McGehee is more a hitters park guy, and his defense is so bad that he's also really a much better DH than a 3rd baseman. Other spot if no good 3rd basemen are available (or tradeable) would be at catcher. Maybe there is someone out there better than Pierzynski, but frankly, he's actually a pretty good park fit, except the +1 arm. Good luck. You can't keep 12 guys hitting under .212 for _too_ long. :)

Drop one of your relievers entirely. You don't need that many crappy relievers. I would probably show Brad Thompson the door. Since he's an R3, he'll pitch too much! Maybe upgrade one of your cheapie pitchers to have an 4L or so you have some situational relievers that HAL actually can manage effectively.

Thanks to everyone who offered their advice. I am implementing the changes discussed. I did not realize or understand ow some of the settings worked.

Since I am a real glutten for punishment I have one other team that I would like some advice. It is much further along in the season and is making me shake my head. For most of the season it has been in first. To quote Steven A Smith..."However", for the last week or so it has been winning only one of three or being swept. I don't know if I should try to upgrade pitching somewhat or really what to do. I just get a bad feeling this team is spiriling down. Here is the link and I would appreciate any more advice.

I have found out the only way to learn is to loose some games and ask some questions and hope there are no dumb qquestions.

This guy right here is the one who taught me everything I know about how to set pitching. I take no credit for what I know as apolivka helped me out with all of that. I posted once that he is my mentor and the reason I am off the porch and running with the big dogs! Thank you yet again AP.
