Here is a fairly recent 108 win Fenway team with Bench, Bonds, Carbo. Righthanded power is the biggest key. Righthanded pitching that doesn't allow HRs is also important.

Thanks for the link - great record!!! Interesting team, and it surely worked well. I'd have never guessed the pitching staff would hold together that well, although quite the lineup.

A comment on Santo - unless I'm missing something, Santo and Harrah are pretty much identical statistically, Santo a tad better on D, and Harrah running with two legs instead of stumps on Santo's part. I won't be relying on speed, obviously, but like the extra base at least. I'm trying to work a trade or two - one guy will NOT budge on Brett, but I just may be able to work out Mays for Otis, although I have to give up Bench for Fisk. But I'm a Bosoxer.....hard to do the Bonds for Rice thing, because I don't see the numbers, esp. thinking on '78 or '79 for Jim Ed! Keep the ideas flowing, by all means! Games start Monday night!

That 108 win team is incredible! Doyle Alexander winning that many games on his '80 card is crazy. Further proves my theory that pitching is almost wasted money in the 70's game. Especially in the hitters parks. Except for Bruce Sutter. I have never gone wrong with that guy for some reason.

True, W.E.C. I'm thinking I have to re-think my thinking.............is Niekro a waste? I still favor Rice over Bonds - maybe it's the name??? I'm being overwhelmed by the guy that wants Bench for Fisk, but ask Sparky about Bench and other catchers.............I'm gonna go for some power............and try not to be too greedy!

So, as I like to do, made a bit of a trade, and a couple signings.....Hallerose, with apologies, I liked what I saw in your link. No guarantees I can come close, even, but your philosophy seems sound. I hated to give up Rice, but I'm thinking Bonds in center, platoon of Carbo and Velez in right. Have to think of giving Coleman a shot, seeing his card. Have one extra starter to figure on who to drop - I tend to like Dobson. Looking for a new set up recommendations from you folk. Not standing still, at least, and my deal was with a 3000 pointer. That made me nervous, gotta tell ya'.

The only thing I might change is the bullpen is full of really expensive guys. I would consider changing out for cheaper options and upgrade at 3rd base. Is Cey available? I have always had decent luck with him.

That's a problem........he's not, and I like him, too. The only guy I'd think of is Nettles, but I'm thinking I'm balanced enough lefty/righty. Agreed on bullpen, but with the 100 mill budget, I'm figuring on sorting that out before the penalty changes from 5 to 10%, or..............well, that's where I'm nervous with Fenway..................can I have too much bullpen?

I just presented trades offering Gibson, etc. for both Cey and Schmidt. If I can pull either one off, there it goes - full offense with a s---bum starting staff. I'm willing to try it - last season I played was 2009 in Petco - I stank it up! Rather have fun with offense, truth be told. So let's see where this goes........................

I am afraid you are still stacked too much with righty batters. Carbo and Yaz are not enough lefty bats to keep you in games consistently. Otto Velez is kinda pricey at $4M. Paul
