trading for a starting pitcher

When you acquire a starting pitcher via trade, can you instantly insert him into your rotation or do you have to wait the requisite number of games for him to be rested?

I believe you can insert him instantly, though this may have been fixed by code.

I wound up with three pitchers with 41 total starts one season with a midseason trade. Not sure if the other guy had his guy on normal rest or not though.
