It sounds like of we do subsets we might lose one or two people, and if we do subsets starting with deadball we could lose a number. The idea of doing exp+post-war is too much like doing the entire set for me, and the early guys and negro leaguers are the ones that fascinate me the most.
So I propose one of two things. We either just do the whole set again (this would be the last time with whole set for me, getting bored) OR we could do subsets starting with EXP(post expansion) and go backwards. that fires my imagination a little bit. Either way I think we could keep the same rules, which I think the majority seems to want.

I'm okay with going backwards, but with the limited players I'd really like to do an open auction for the first, okay 50 or so, players and make up for the time, if not with a draft, perhaps some sort of big bang auction as I proposed earlier as an idea. But I'm open to other ideas...

I've done these subsets via live draft before and with the limited player pool (esp in the older sets) I can see where a few unlucky bids in a closed auction could be devastating.

I have an idea that would greatly increase the speed of closed auctions but unless someone has a better idea it would require a 13th non-team owning participant.

You draft an entire team, conforming to SOM draft rules, placing your own value to each player following the usual auction $80/$200 rules. You PM your draft to the 13th participant who reviews the results and posts them after all teams have been received. Highest bidder for each player wins the player. Then a second round to fill the holes, and so on, and so on until the teams are full.

I reckon this would take 2-3 weeks.[/quote:b35bad738a]

If you did this, I would like to be the 13th. Need to hold off on new teams for awhile and keeps me somewhat involved.....

Let's float these rules:

You fill out a draft that conforms to standard SOM draft rules and follows normal auction conventions. Which for the uninitiated means $200 mil SOM cap with $80 mil to spend (see example below). For players with multiple cards you are free to use any card you want and free to exchange cards during the season, but for the sake of satisfying the $200 mil cap the player's highest value card will be counted. Minimum bid is 0.50 or 10% of the player's highest carded value, whichever is greater.

Each of the 12 owners fills out a draft and PM's it to our 13th volunteer - the auctioneer. When all drafts have been received the auctioneer posts *all* results. The highest bid for each player wins. In the case of ties, the tying owners have 24 hours to begin an open auction on the player starting with the tying bid - either owner can claim the first bid. In the name of expediency if you don't want to bid further post a pass don't sit silent waiting for 24 hours to pass. Bids may be increased at $100K intervals minimum. In the event neither owner wants to continue, the player is awarded to the next highest bidder. If no such person exists the player is back in the available pool of players. After all ties have been satisfied, the second round begins. Same procedure, fill out a draft to fill all positions not won in the first round (keep track of your money!!!) and submit it to the auctioneer.

Lather, rinse, repeat until all rosters are full.

The league is a $200 mil cap, DH, advanced. Other than swapping cards on the same player, no drop/adds are permitted.

It has been normal procedure not to permit trades in auction leagues as it takes away from bidding strategy, but as this type of auction is somewhat of a hybrid between auto draft and auction, I'm going to allow it (unless there is general disagreement from the participants).

Here's an example of how it will work:

First draft list:
Player/pos/bid/SOM value
Pedro Martinez / S7*/ [b:050c86b775]9.0[/b:050c86b775] / 10.54
Addie Joss / S9* / [b:050c86b775]4.55[/b:050c86b775] / 10.19

Martin Dihigo / all / [b:050c86b775]0.57[/b:050c86b775] / 5.65

Total bid $: 80 mil
Total SOM $: 199.69

After all bids are in it is announced that I am the high bidder on:
Addie Joss / S9* / [b:050c86b775]4.55[/b:050c86b775] / 10.19
Walter Johnson / S9* / [b:050c86b775]3.5[/b:050c86b775] / 10.08

Trevor Hoffman / R1 / [b:050c86b775]4.5[/b:050c86b775] / 5.85
Calvin Schiraldi / R3 / [b:050c86b775]0.50[/b:050c86b775] / 3.84
Don Mossi / S8 or R3 / [b:050c86b775]0.51[/b:050c86b775] / 5.00 (note that although most people would use Mossi's R3 4.72 card, the 5.00 has to be used for the total value).
Bill Delancey / C / [b:050c86b775]0.50[/b:050c86b775] / 4.22
Lou Gehrig / 1B / [b:050c86b775]9.55[/b:050c86b775] / 11.89
Chase Utley / 2B / [b:050c86b775]0.56[/b:050c86b775] / 5.58
Mike Schmidt / 3B / [b:050c86b775]3.49[/b:050c86b775] / 9.27
Jimmie Dykes / IF / [b:050c86b775]0.56[/b:050c86b775] / 5.56
Oscar Charleston / OF / [b:050c86b775]8.55[/b:050c86b775] / 12.89
Lance Berkman / OF / [b:050c86b775]0.71[/b:050c86b775] / 7.08
Gorman Thomas / OF / [b:050c86b775]0.70[/b:050c86b775] / 6.94
Martin Dihigo / all / [b:050c86b775]0.57[/b:050c86b775] / 5.65
And I enter a tie with:
Willie Wells / SS / [b:050c86b775]7.0[/b:050c86b775] / 10.03

So Willie Wells goes to open auction. I enter first at 7.0. The other owner counters at 7.1, I go 7.2, he goes 7.3, I go 7.4, he quits. I get Willie Wells at 7.4

I now have rights to 16 players
I have spent auction money: $46.94
I have spent in SOM money: $121.96

For the next round I make a draft list of nine players that must include four pitchers and one catcher. I have $33.06 to bid with and the max total value of the players cannot exceed $78.04.

The auctioneer should be sure all draft lists conform to the salary requirements and reject those that don't.

At the end of the auction we draft unique stadiums using the SOM value of our teams, lowest to highest.

Divisions to be determined by randomizer before the draft begins (this can be changed).

Did I forget anything...?

do we wait until open auctions are over to proceed to the next round?

are you planning to recruit new managers on the ATG board?

Yes we would have to wait for the open auctions to conclude. If people think there could be a time issue they can always be closed auctions as we did originally with the closed auctions.

Yes I will take this to the ATG board after all of us have had a shot at it.
