HAL has really lost it...

Top of the 10th inning and HAL moves Wayne Gross to catcher (even though I have Whitt and Berryhill sitting on the bench watching the game) and moves Guillen to third base (to the dismay of Tabler who is also enjoying the game from the bench).

There really is something wrong with HAL's (paper thin to begin with anyway) logic!!

Perhaps HAL was playing an April Fool's joke and was a day late.

That does sound wacky. I'm afraid I can't explain this particular example. All I can say is that the computer manager (obviously) isn't perfect, and some bizarre things will happen from time to time, although they're relatively rare, especially considering the many thousands of moves it gets right on a nightly basis.

Another thing I'll note is that unless I explicitly make a code change - and I usually announce those in advance - the computer manager doesn't somehow deteriorate (or somehow improve, for that matter). It's the same every night, for better or worse! :)

HAL does actually makes good decisions?

Howdy,

Bernieh: I wouldn't want to manage my SOM during the game, I confess. But HAL's moves are often perplexing. If computers can defeat the World's strongest chess Grandmasters, why can't a team be capably managed by a computer?

Yeah...you've gotta love it. HAL should still make an effort to stop drinking before games... :D

The thought of HAL after he's had a few is a little scary! :D
