Looking to Join or Start a Kepper League

[quote:829548be49="joekendall"]I am in other leagues that have removed the 2 years on Prospects. I believe having your prospects as long as you want to hold on to them is a good thing. I would also suggest some type of lottery draft every year for the first round of the annual free agent draft. It may help prevent anyone from tanking to get the first pick.[/quote:829548be49]

I could go either way on Joe's first point. However there is usually someone on your roster that could be dropped in favor of a prospect. I disagree with the tanking issue. Generally, those who sign up for keeper leagues are dedicated strat-fiends who would abhor such a practice. Even suckiness deserves a reward sometimes.

I may be biased. I took over 3 keeper league teams this year that will finish a combined 60 games under .500. That's why I'm here. Adoption is fantastic in the real world but in fantasy parentage is where it's at.

Also could go or not with the two-year prospect pick.
I am in favor of the lottery pick.
I think a potential problem is sometimes one-year wonders join keeper leagues and leave after attempting to win the first year.

Thoughts

I am definitely with Terry here on the concern over Tanking. It really does not happen and being in line to get going the next year by rebuilding is a strong incentive toward the future, but a lottery pick in a 12 team league is not really worth it in my opinion.

On the Prospect limit; 2 years seems about right to me, too, though I am not locked into that position; it does, however, encourage us all to try to prospect for players who have a chance to make the bigs in a reasonably short time.

What if we extend the time we can keep prospects to 3 or 4 years? Also any interest in making it a no DH league just to mix it up a little bit? I'm in regardless though.

Just to add my two cents...Im not a big fan of lottery picks to determine draft order at all. I rarely see tanking in keeper leagues, and I think a lottery pick draft would discourage managers from making trades for future picks (ex: trading a one year wonder player to improve someones current team for a future 1st round pick)

A lottery could also discourage manager from returning for future seasons...say a guy goes 62-100 and then gets slapped with the 12th pick...I'm thinking he probably wont be too thrilled or interested in his team, which could lead to draft delays, and finding numerous replacement managers. I am not saying that this is what I would do, but it is just something that would probably happen.

I vote NO lottery, worse team gets the top pick

I think the idea of the lottery is a weighted NBA type where a 62-100 record has the best chance of getting first pick, the next best chance of the 2nd worst pick, etc. In that type of lottery, for a 62-100 team- it would be impossible to get last pick.[b:523809cfb3] It is not a pure lottery.[/b:523809cfb3] A few of the keeper leagues do it.

This is an example of our weighted lottery in a keeper league with the number of wins:
