I'd hit him 9th. As a number 2 hitter, Max can basically move Rickey only one base, and Rickey does that all by himself. Dihigo gives you a better chance of driving Rickey in. As a number 9 hitter, Max can turn over the order.

Its a no DH league. But I have used Bishop in the 8th spot.
his defense is great no matter where he hits and you really
would like to avoid making the last out just before the pitcher
in too many innings.

Two theories for effective #2 bats.
#1 - One of three best bats (Tom Tango)
High OB, low Gb(a), XBH.
2 - Do no harm, move guys over theory.
What to look for:
High OB, low Gb(A), K's don't matter, high bunt score.
Bishop is DEFINITELY not the Tango guy. High OB, but 20 Gb(A) and 2.5-3 xbh. If Bishop is one of your three best bats... I hope you're in a sixty and spent a lot on pitching.
Under theory #2
Still high OB, still 20 gb(a), low K isn't doing anything one way or the other, and bunt B is not giving me confidence, neither.
I'd say bat him 8th. He'll churn the lineup to the pitcher 38%+ of the time. Rickey says, "He will mess with Rickey's speed on the bases if you bat him that close ahead of Rickey." If you value Rickey's Fast, then maybe 7th.

This team went 91-21 but missed playoffs in a 24 team league. Bishop hits 9th. Judging by the OBP an the team's sucess, I'd say he did his job on this squad. With the BB he nearly checks in with a 200 hit equivalent. His lack of speed is a neggie, for sure, but this team won with him.

3 ideas behind Bishop:
1) bunting (not H&R) plus speed (Moreno eg., although his own OBP sucks); the idea is Moreno can move Bishop to 2nd or get on and steal it.
2) triples (at least 15, 20 is better) (may be able to combine w/ #1)
3) taters & walks (Ted Williams - but don't recall if he is in your player set); figure that your 3-4-5 will have some power anyway (I am sort of presuming you are not considering this in a stone pitchers park, so spending on OPS or SLG or both will be worth it), so Williams or whoever should be onbase for those Homers too.
