Base Stealing

Base Stealing

Postby tjbraun » Thu Jul 28, 2011 11:06 am

So I have a general question for base stealing. I did some math on all the base stealing data for the 2010 set and found that 2 of the best stealers this year are actually rated as a "B" Any ideas where I screwed up? I mean here are the top 3 steals guys according to my analysis:
Player 1 - (B) *2-8,11,12/- (20-16)
Player 2 - (B) *2-6,11,12/- (19-15)
Player 3 - (AA) *2-6,12/- (19-15)
So how on earth is a guy that is 20-16 only a B compared to the 19-15 guy who also doesn't get a lead on 7,8 and 11?

I have Player 1 stealing 2nd successfully 96.1% independent of defense, pitcher, catcher, Player 2 - 85.0% and player 3 - 83.9%

That seems extremely odd to me that Player 1 wouldn't be at least A and more likely AA...I mean that rating is better than Vince Coleman's 1986 card: (AAA) *2-7,11/- (20-16).

Thoughts?

For clarity, the three players are Dyson, Ellsbury, and Pierre. The most obvious answer is that since Dyson and Ellsbury had limited ABs in 2010, that likely has some effect on their steal rating. Why should ABs affect steal rating? I have no idea. The steal rating only matters in the most basic version game (which hardly anyone plays, I think). The advanced SOM game uses the actual steal chances, so that shouldn't really be a concern.

Here's another steal question: does selecting do not steak effect a baserunners * rating?

I set "do not steak" on CC Sabathia, and it didn't seem to do anything.

But seriously, ladies and germs... managerial settings don't affect the guy's ratings... nor can the opposing computer manager "peek" at your settings. So if you set "do not steal" on a player with a *, the computer will still hold him. (Presumably if the guy has a high chance to be caught stealing automatically, this is what you want to do.)

I have to assume that [b:d90f476704]AeroDave[/b:d90f476704]'s theory is correct, and that they don't entirely trust the Basic players to limit players' playing time to realistic amounts. There's certainly no disputing that *2-6,12/- (19-15) is plain old worse than *2-8,11,12/- (20-16). But as [b:d90f476704]Dave[/b:d90f476704] says, the letter rating has no effect on gameplay here.

I think Sabathia ignored that setting and eats all the steak that gets on his base I mean plate.
