NLD Twenty-Nine!

Postby joethejet » Sun Nov 13, 2011 5:41 pm

Hey Guys, sorry for the rant. We just aren't very good. Probably not as bad as we played, but clearly this isn't a 90 win team. I'll shut up now and stop whining (well, mostly). :oops:

As a parting shot, I'll note that we managed to win 2 last night (sorry Zim) one by one run in extras and the other in our last at bat. Karma eh? The game we lost was just your average 5 run inning which happens all the time. I'll also note that Richard is facing us tonight! :) I'm sure he'll be lights out after my "dissing" him! ;) :D

You can return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Looking forward to the next card set. This will be two entire seasons without and NLD playoff appearance. This after winning 2 in a row and making the palyoffs in the third one. :(

Wow, an explosion tonight. We pound out 35 runs against Big M. :oops: Probably just a one series fluke however. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time-to-time.

[quote:0adb47eeb6="Detroit-Tigers"][quote:0adb47eeb6="bigmahon"]Jeep, this is what I've been trying to tell Joe for awhile now. For example, he has made several comments about Clayton Richard, expressing surprise that he continues to do well. My guess is he doesn't rate well. But he remains one of my favorite players in the set, and for $1.07 NEVER fails to deliver exceptional value for money. Put him in Miller and he will outperform other pitchers priced considerably higher. I've yet to have a bad season from him.

Some of the great managers in this game don't use a ratings system, but run endless sims when the cards come out to determine which players tend to perform well in certain circumstances. I know cristano/weinberg is one such manager. And like him or not, he's better than most. 8-)[/quote:0adb47eeb6]

I wouldn't say never...

I was speaking from my experience, and I don't ever play in Coors. :wink:

I must have used Richard a dozen times in this set. I'll see if there were any stinkers in there.

[quote:d71511aaea]...Wilson, by any measure is a better pitcher than Bell. He's got lower OB, aver and TBs both ways.[/quote:d71511aaea]

Joe, This brings a smile to my face. Despite the ratings I pick Bell every time because of the good consistency he has shown for me. As mentioned, I see Wilson stinking up the joint in actual leagues I'm in. So you having that mentality about Wilson gives me a one up on you in this game. And I could care less about the R2. I have Zumaya for that purpose.

And I have to repeat this part:
"Wilson, by [b:d71511aaea]any[/b:d71511aaea] measure is a better pitcher than Bell."

[b:d71511aaea]NLD 29[/b:d71511aaea]
[u:d71511aaea]Wilson[/u:d71511aaea]
ERA = 4.87
WHIP = 1.40

[u:d71511aaea]Bell[/u:d71511aaea]
ERA = 2.20
WHIP = 1.09

So I take it you're not using THIS league as a measuring stick. :wink:

And I didn't even mention saves due to them not having the same exact role. But, if you take a look:

Wilson: 18 out of 27
Bell: 37 out of 39

Joe, you really pasted me last night! I meant to comment on it earlier, but have been swamped. 8-)

I guess I jinxed Richard too, who got hammered. Uggla was especially hard on him, but that's no surprise. Uggla should be Richard's worst nightmare in your park.

The division is starting to get interesting!

Jeep, I'm just talking pure numbers on their cards. If you're getting better results on a consistent basis then it's due to other factors (e.g. park, defensive, usage) NOT their cards. There's a very good reason that Wilson is more expensive.

Now, I'm not saying you can't build a better team with Bell due to his reduced costs, but Wilson has a better card without question.
[code:1:33c132a119]
SOvL BBvL HITvL OBvL TBvL HRvL BPvL DPvL
52 13 6.8 19.8 11 0 0 0
50 11 6.3 17.4 7.7 0 0 0
SOvR BBvR HITvR OBvR TBvR HRvR BPvR DPvR

38 9 16.8 25.8 22.5 0 0 2
39 3 13.9 17 18.8 0 0 0
[/code:1:33c132a119]

Those are Bell's numbers over Wilson's.

Big M,

Well, we got hot for a night. Doubt it will last, but I have to admit it felt good to shell Richard. ;) 8-) Probably used a week's worth of good fortune in one night!

As I predicted, got pasted on my own tonight. Gave up 24 in the first two and lost a close one in game 3. And so it goes. <sigh>

Thanks for the sweep DT. Hopefully this time I can stop looking up at Big's bum and catch him.

No problem- just doing my sprint to the finish to take the central.
