POLL - Super-Reliever Usage

Postby JohnnyBlazers » Mon Jan 23, 2012 2:15 pm

In light of the current Petrosian-Weinberg debate, I think our community would be interested to know how everyone feels about using Relievers in a "Super-Reliever" mode, i.e. getting the Sutters, Mariano Riveras et al. to pitch 200/300+ innings by adjusting the pitcher settings. Do you believe this is "Cheating" and violates the spirit of the game? Or, if it's allowed by HAL, then it's ok?

I wish TSN and Bernie would fix the program to prevent this, but until they do, I'm gonna do what everyone else now seems to be doing.

Can't they normalize plate appearances and innings pitched? Throw in a random factor to allow a player to exceed their "expected" output occasionally but if a pitcher is over twice the innings pitched from their year, can't we increase the fatigue or injury rates? Same with hitters? Drop the clutch or lose ballpark power, something to weaken the outliers a little.

Is it ok to use Milt May full time and have him hit 40 homers? We play within the confines of this game and any strategy is available to any manager. Not saying that there are no things that I would consider cheating but I just dont even understand why this is an issue to people. If someone beats me with a new strategy I tip my hat to them and take note of it and consider the strategy in the future. I am always amazed by what some people complain about. Oh well, to each his own I guess.

I agree with PJ. There should be a built-in cost to pitching a guy 3, 4 or 5 times his innings. And if not then price should reflect the true value. If a reliever is going to pitch 300 innings just like a starter then they should cost the same.

Valen hit the nail on the head. I am pretty sure that relievers are not priced to pitch 250 innings. I do believe that Milt May is priced as an everyday player.

Is it cheating? Not in my opinion
Will I do it? No
Should Bernie fix it? Yes

Will I lose any sleep over it? No

I'm with Roosky here.

So it isn't the very unrealistic amount of innings an rp pitches that make some people think its cheating...its just the cost of the rp....Funny ask almost everyone here which players far outperform their price and you'll get plenty from all...No complaint there though... No complaints when Max Lainer pitches 5X his actual card or when B. Tincup throws 6X his card ..No cries of cheating there huh...no cries of unrealistic performance there ....Just a Hall of Records with teams that stole almost 700 bases, hit 500 hrs, drove in 1600 runs....individuals that hit 100 hrs, drove in 250, scored 250... Cheaters all of them...Some of you crack me up.

 All that I will say is. LET THEM PLAY!!!!! I really don't cares if a RP gets 200+ IPS. I am here to have fun, curse HAL out at any given moment, rant about my closer blowing another lead, complain about conspiracy theories and watch some of my teams implode. Did I say that I am a Strat Addict? Well I am. 8-) :D

don't know that it's that big of a deal. To get those guys to pitch 300 innings you really have to have cheap (weak) starting pitching and that's a big trade-off.
