new Billy Hamilton?

Any further comments on the either Hamilton card or either of the Joe Kelleys? I'm looking for a leadoff hitter who will be a DH, and am suspicious of these two guys, but am tempted by the real life numbers.

Hamilton is my CF in the Barnstormers Semi-Finals Tournament. Team is 36-15 so far. He's hitting .325 with a .442 OBP and has scored 48 runs in 51 games. Cap is 100M. My LF is the cheap Minoso. Only two teams in the league have fewer OF assists than my team but it hasn't seemed to kill me yet.

Here he is on a lefty-hitting team with serious power after him in the lineup (Ruth, Bonds, Brett). Played him in CF.

Using him as my LF in an 80 mill DH league. Leading off at Petco '05.

After 370 ABs: .292 BA .421 OBP w/league leading 42 SBs but not great % as caught stealing 24 times.

Love the OBP. Wish the BA was closer to the card's but that rarely happens with any card...

About what I thought. I agree, you see those real life stats and get giddy, but then the strat engine and all the other great players trim everything down to something less. Funny how power seems to be the one thing not muffled here.

This is an 80m DH league, and even though I'm in Minute Maid Park, I think that he should be quite effective at getting on base, which is all I ask because there is plenty of power coming up behind him.

I love him.

Leading off for my Barnstormers semis team. DH'ing.

Leads the league in runs scored (tied with his teammate Duffy):

Not quite sure I understand why he is not a more effcient base stealer. Maybe just bad luck.

Now that I take a closer look I see that Hamilton's slightly cheaper clone, Joe Kelley (7.40), is ranked #2 in runs scored.

I remember thinking about drafting him also. I liked the fact they were both bulletproof.

Hamilton finished well for me:

.314 BA, .440 OBP w/a league leading 68 stolen bases.

hamilton is an interesting player to draft. Whenever I get him I get several trade offers for him. But the offers are never impressive. Lots of people want him but few willing to pay a lot.

Thing is the defense is not good enough to play in field. But most people want some power from their DH spot. Definitely a card with reasons to go after and reasons to avoid. Would make an interesting case in modern baseball when he reached arbitration status.

How often do you get trade offers where someone is willing to pay a lot (or even something you consider "even")?

My experience is that people are usually trying to steal a player, since I almost never get a second offer that's been "upped".
