worst start ever

At least for me. I had an ATG6 team that started at 4-20. It eventually made it close to .500. This one is looking pretty scary.

I screwed up on a couple of things with drafting this team. I should not have taken Kemp -- that was a big dope-slap move. I had Ellsbury picked on my autodraft, but at the last moment swapped him for Kemp. Ellsbury ended up being available in waivers, but not for me. I also don't have a lead-off hitter. Hard to do much offense without somebody who can get on base. My Mendoza-line hitters' home/road splits are pretty much equally bad. And somehow, my pitchers (who aren't doing all that badly) have managed to get 5 blown saves already.

Not really looking for advice. Just some commiseration. I'm very conservative about making moves once a season starts, and will try riding this one out. I'm sure my division mates will very happy.

I too went with a Kemp/Cano combo and mediocre pitching and I`m at 7-14 and going nowhere except to tear the team up looking for pitching.

Cano is hampered by a low OB% and Kemps high cost hampers maneuvers. I think both need a hitters park to justify their cost and I tried to mitigate my poor pitching with my park and defense. :?

I once read a post by a good player who said it "was a good rule of thumb to have your best player be aided by your ballpark dimensions". I guess they were right. Beltran is doing well, but he is also not ideal for your park. He has OBP vs RHP's and power vs LHP's. You really want it the other way around.

On the surface, it looks like this team should a lot better than 2-19. I agree that Progressive wasn't a good field choice for this team. However, I wouldn't panic and make tons of changes.

I would stick it out another 12 to 15 games or so.

Kemp just doesn't fit that park and he costs a ton. Howard and Cano should turn it around. The other post mentioning Beltran I agree with. You only get 4 # dice rolls batting Lefty but 8 # dice rolls batting Righty and you need the opposite. I would drop Kemp and use that money get another CF and then with what's left over I would upgrade for a better SP.

You could unload Liriano as he has little value with that card. He can't get lefties out so he's no good in the bullpen and similarly because he isn't solid vs a particular handed batter he isn't a good spot starter where you could match him up vs a particular lineup. I don't know the 2011 card set as I haven't played it but I just go for a second lefty specialist if there is one in place of Liriano.

Of course a big part of what is going on is bad luck. This is not a 2-19 team and that will balance out to some degree but it isn't built to maximize your park. Not sure what the penalty is in your league. Perhaps you can trade Kemp but might be tough to match salaries. Target other teams that are struggling I guess.

Got a sweep, in the right direction, last night. Now up to 5-19, with 82 runs scored against 111 given up. Watch out league. Here we come!

I'm going to be kicking myself all season for picking Kemp when I had the chance for Ellsbury. So it goes.

I think one reason that Beltran is still doing well in Progressive is that, even with the 8 BPHR's against lefties, he has his own power from that side. Yes, he will do better in RH hitter parks, but I think he's got enough of his own power to do okay in parks like Progressive. It's kind of like Gordon, who is doing well for me, even in AT&T. But that's what I'm hoping.

Anyway, it's time for HAL to put Beltran down with a 15-game injury, just to add in the salt to this gaping wound of a team.

Hey, perhaps my "stick with them" strategy will pay off. 8-)
