He hasn't been used in any of my previous 3 1986 seasons. He doesn't appear to have a great card but he is a great defender at 2B as well as hitting RHP fairly well.

I'm just curious how bad his offense is for the price as calculating dice rolls it is hard to see it producing very much which is why I assume people don't use him for $7.33.

I would love to see any stats you have seen him produce. Thanks guys

I don't have time to post links or anything but I did look at about a dozen leagues that Whitaker was used in. Of those he posted only a couple of decent seasons (around .270 with 80 runs and 15 homers) but many more mediocre to terrible results. In fact he was getting dropped a lot halfway through hitting .180 - .220. I know I've never wanted him at that price.

Whitaker is way down on the list of 2B for me. I just don't think he's worth the $$$. But, with all that I've just stated, I just completed a 101 win champion w/ him. His line?

598 72 139 30 5 18 73 54 76 6 1 10 .232 .293 .390

That was at Tiger Stadium.

I like the value that Thompson gives at 2B, but he wasn't available. I've also done well w/ Bernazard and with a Flannery/Phillips platoon.

If you've got the $$$ available and no better options, Whitaker is your guy.

Thanks, I picked him up because I had the money and I don't have a great SS. I have Guillen at SS and Rickey Henderson in CF and I really wanted to be solid up the middle. Gary Carter is my C. I might play Gagne vs LHP and sub Whitaker defensively if I have the lead as I play at Fenway and Gagne has good BP HR dice rolls vs LHP and is okay defensively.

I appreciate the responses guys. I am not counted on Whitaker for much more than defense as my SP didn't go as I planned and I can't afford the extra runs from a weak middle infield defensively.

For the most part I like your team. I don't like:
1)Cox and Youman my two favorites. Browning and Correa not so much. Not sure why Stewart is there but I know you have a man crush because he had a good season for you. I don't think a LH SP who gives up #HR to RH and a RH w/ a poor WHIP worse vs RH hitters have big upsides in Fenway. I would rather use say Alexander and Seaver and grab a fifth starter with no *. I think they have just as much chance of being servicable in Fenawy and also have a better chance of having a good year.
2)Is Nixon your DH vs rhp's? I would use the $$$ from the pitching to get a better DH. Nixon should be 4th OF and back up DH. Grab another good hitter.
3)Sundberg not so bad, but still a good amount to spend on 2nd cathher. I would gamble on Carter with a cheapo backup, freeing up more $$$ for DH upgrade if a little needed to get someone good.
4)Don't need two LH specialists in Fenway. I would ditch Powell for a balanced, cheap middleman type.

HoJo is gonna DH vs RHP. Ray Knight is gonna play both ways as last time I did that he batted .300 for the season and got OBP at 355 vs RHP.

Otis Nixon is just my 4th OF in case of injury and will be a PR at times.

I see what you mean about the LHP specialists but I have reason to believe I will need them both vs a couple of big matchups I am eyeballing this season. I might be delusional but I think this team might be able to compete for a wild card spot with some good luck.

I have played about a zillion seasons in SOMO, many in Fenway as I am from Boston. HAL will not use two LH specialists enough to make it worth your while unless you use one as a regular reliever for those matchups. There will barely be enough innings for one LH specialist, even if all your other pitchers are RH.

Thanks Durant, I will take that into account and look into at free agency later. I appreciate the help. I live in Maine and grew up in Vermont as a Sox fan. I did my first Strato season with Fenway and made some mistakes. Now I am headed back and hoping to do better.
