Uh-oh. Looks like the Fat Lady (no relation to my Fat Boys :) ) is loosening up her vocal cords. We needed to take at least 2 out of 3 from the division leading Breakers last night in order to control our own destiny heading into the last couple of series. Now it looks like we'll need help from the Breakers, Hakers and Bums, as my only realistic chance is the wildcard.
This has been a frustrating season for me in many ways. In the beginning of the year, I had a feeling I didn't have the horses to compete, but I held out hope that we would get some luck with the mystery card. Turns out we had [i:2cafd3ea3e]some[/i:2cafd3ea3e] decent cards, but nothing to put me over the hump. We made some trades during the year, but none of them worked out as planned.....including getting what looked like Sutcliffe's 1984 card for the 2nd consecutive season. I guess the man just cannot pitch in the bright lights of Yankee Stadium (i.e. Ed Whitson/Jeff Weaver/Steve Trout/Kenny Rogers disease).
Well, I'm not conceding anything yet as I've seen stranger things happen in SOM, but it's not looking good for my 'boys. Regardless, it may be time to re-stock the cupboards anyway. Having all these overachieving guys are nice, but relying on them year after year is no way to go through the decade. Our scouts are already hard at work scouring the 1986 draft class for some REAL talent.
