Mauer strategy

[quote:71d6418cc8]Mauer should get more at-bats than expected, because Mauer will never get injured when catcher #2 is injured . [/quote:71d6418cc8]

That of course is assuming the back up will get hurt before Mauer does!

Also, you would still have to carry an able back up for the position that will be vacated by your second catcher/position player. Also, Mauer is TERRIBLE vs lefties...i don't think you want to make it known that he will always be catching, even if a lefty is in, because you are likely to see alot of lefties, (albeit cheap, situational one's) which will keep mighty Joe at bay....IMO

And that's why the other guy should be highly injury-prone, and highly talented. The more he gets injured, the more Mauer you get because of this loophole in the sim.

Another interesting guy to try would be Benito Santiago.

Not that any of this makes any sense in terms of real baseball.

Cachers

I thought that this was shown to be a farce. There's no such thing as an "uninjurable" catcher. If you have 2 catchers and they are both injured, you've got a C-5 e?? catching for a few games. With Catch-X only coming up a couple of times per game? Not much pain is expected. LA Bear

Bear, if one catcher gets hurt, and you only have two players with a catching rating, the other becomes indestructible for the duration of player 1`s injury

I have never seen both catchers injured at the same time on any team in any league I have played in.

I like Mauer in combo with B.Molina.

Mauer and Piazza are a great platoon IMO. I love making up all injury teams and use those 2 guys all the time. I had a team finish its season last Friday, playoffs start tonight. They put up good numbers, even though Mauer only had 287 AB. Piazza had 382 AB.

This is an all-AL league, so I decided at the last minute to switch from Inge to Santiago (injury on 6), and signed Bill Mueller to play 3B. Now we'll see if the invulnerable catcher is a theory or not.

Even though Santiago's a 2R, he'll platoon with Mauer. He gives better coverage v. RHP when Mauer's out.

Gee, I found this thread a little too late.

I'll be tossing LH pitching at you whenever possible, BK, rest assured. :D

I use Cota a lot, as my main catcher. He is Dave Kingman-extreme and reincarnated. 30 HR, .170 BA, terrible fielder. Of a Mauer/Cota doubleteam, I would say the weak link is Mauer.
