Stealing

Postby franky35 » Tue Apr 04, 2006 7:04 pm

In the 1969 game, what is the signficance of a *? I know it indicates that a player needs to be held (or he automatically gets a lead). I'm told that it lowers fielder's ratings by 1, and it increases hit-n-run by a grade. Does it have any effect on the hitter's card?

I will sometimes put a good stealer in front of a double-play threat and check "steal more" to reduce the double play threat, although I think that HAL doesn't buy into this strategy and will attempt a steal most (i.e., with lowest % success) with 2 outs. Anybody else notice this?

Yes here's the rule, right from the rule book:

[i:51ce051a87]23.83 When an infielder is responsible for holding a runner and a gb()X is hit to him, add 1 to that fielder's range rating. Example: With a runner held at first and a lefthanded hitter at the plate, a shortstop rated 2e20 becomes 3e20. The maximum range rating is 5.

23.84 Do not award a SINGLE** on a "gb()+" while runners are being held on base. Instead, when a gb()X to an infielder responsible for holding the runner results in a symbol followed by a "#", change that result to "SI2" (single, with all runners advancing two bases).[/i:51ce051a87]

for all the Strat-O rules, but not the charts.

Dave and Cummings...you both make good points. Lately I've just been putting stealing on conservative. Garabito and ARod have some SBs for me but that's about it.
