Dontrelle Willis not only won his start against Pedro last night, but he hit [b:95a4118bb7]7th[/b:95a4118bb7] in the order. Yes, McKeon hit him in the 7 spot. That's the first time its happened since 1973. That was pretty cool.

Marquis is really hitting the ball this year as well

Jason Marquis is having a better year than Dontrelle at the plate, but Willis is way ahead of him on the mound.

In 84 AB's this year, Marquis has a BA of .321 and SLG of .476. He has 8 doubles, a homer and 10 RBI's. He has been used as a pinch hitter at times and should have batted 7th or 8th when Mahoney was catching.

For comparison purposes, Willis has 88 AB's and a BA of .250 and SLG of .330 with 4 doubles, a homer and 11 RBI's.

Each of these guys outhits quite a few hitters in the league.

I'm surprised. I thought managers stayed away from doing this because it shows up the hitters batting behind him. Surely there has been other occasions when managers could have did this but didn't for that reason.

Can Willis play second? I'm thinking that he'd be a better signing for the Yankees at 2B than Tony Womack was...

Robinson Canu can play 2b pretty good for the Yankees

The Womack wiff was erased by promoting a kid from within the organization that has ben pretty good. Robinson Canu has not been a weak spot for the Yankees this year and certainly is a better 2B than Willis could be. :P

Your comment about batting a pitcher above a hitter is normally correct. But the Marlins are fighting for a playoff spot and due to middle infied injuries they had to start the .154 hitting Joe Dillon at 2B and the slightly better .208 hitting Robert Andino at SS. I think McKeon wasn't to concerned with those guys egos, rather more concerned with their ability to hit. Man that is tough having to go with those two for middle infield in a playoff race.

As usual, you are correct Abner. I didn't realize that's who the Marlins were starting at those 2 spots!
