Puzzled..the Fun of Trading...

Ok Mark . Here's who I have and why I don't want to trade for Stan and keep Red .

1B Hodges ,was after Cooper
2B Red
3B Gardner
ss Ripken
LF Yaz
CF Simmons
RF Aaron

I'd take McCormick also instead of Cooper. The league is kind of strange ( but we're a strange bunch ) . All the divisions have a couple pitchers parks and hitters parks . 3 Forbes , 2 Griffith, 2 FW'67, Baker, Metro, Yanks 27, Fw 86 and me at Bennett. I want the good D and have plenty of hitting . Even if I keep Hodges . So to give up Red would be a dumb play IMO .

I think I'd keep Red, with that group. You have plenty of slugging, IMO, with Aaron, Simmons, Yaz. Given that you have Ripken's 2 at SS, I would want to keep Red's 1 at 2b, especially. Another lefty bat would be nice, but not critical.

im number 2 waiver and im one who turned him down. for me to lose collins for his # 1 waiver pick for me didnt make sense for this reason. say i took the trade and wanted musial and cobb. i already have cuyler in right. so id move him to left. that leaves musial at first base. but with the price of those 3 i can find better value cheaper at first base. with better defense for my pitching team. and would still have no second baseman either and my ss is iffy at best.
to many holes to take that trade. id trade collins if the deal helped me in multiple spots but to improve at first base and lose at second its a wash.

What about Larry Doyle Nev? He could be had for the fisrt pick :D

I still can't believe I did not get Morgan. He is ALWAYS available in an $80 mil league post-waivers so I put him on my card and had him like 10th or so since I figured so long as he was on my card, then I would get him.
I also should have known better than to put Garber on my card with Von (Free Radicals) in the league. I had Garber 4th or 5th and I thought I might sneak him out. I had Fryman one spot higher than Garber.

I usually do not make trades, but in one league I made 2 trades that I consider to be blockbusters within 1 day of each other:

Irish Spring traded:
Jackson, Reggie ($7,830,000)
Dimaggio, Joe ($11,240,000)
McEnaney, Will ($970,000)
O'Dell, Billy ($4,040,000)

to Tournament Boss for:
Aaron, Hank ($8,600,000)
Thomas, Gorman ($5,880,000)
Quisenberry, Dan ($3,020,000)
Seaver, Tom ($6,880,000)

and...

Tournament Boss traded:
Selkirk, George ($7,310,000)
Banks, Ernie ($8,740,000)
Collins, Ripper ($6,360,000)
McEnaney, Will ($970,000)

to Relative Tenses for:
Simmons, Al ($9,710,000)
Pesky, Johnny ($5,520,000)
Cooper, Cecil ($6,530,000)
Eastwick, Rawly ($1,840,000)

I wish we could look at transactions from past teams. I've been involved in some nice blockbusters...some even got me into the playoffs! :D Some got me out of the playoffs... :?

I think everyone could use a refresher in trade etiquette and practicality.

Trades are the most efficient way to turn a bad team around, but they require a lot of time and effort to find a good match and to pull them off. I think a lot of times, owners become wed to certain players waiting for the turnaround (I'm as guilty of this as anyone - try prying Pollet away from me sometime... :P ). There comes a time when it is too late to fix the dysfunctional squad, and you don't want to look back at a trade that could have been and wonder why you lost 90 games.

We all also need to look at proposals as starting points. If someone sends you an offer, that isn't a "take it or leave it" offer. It means someone wants to make a change. If you are not at all intersted in changing your team, say so, but if you see room for something, at least acknowledge the offer and reply with what you might want. It's better than slamming the door.

Next time Nev offers me Musial, I'm taking him!!! 8)

Preacher PJ, over and out...

Wow I'd just about never offer Barney for Garber.

Nev you've forgotten the obligatory "I'm going to wait until after waivers and see how my team looks..."

Like pulling teeth. I usually make between 20-25 offers in each league I play in before waivers, maybe 5% lead to anything.

It's kinda fun trying, though.

Trades in season are[b:58b7fbbfcb] very dificult[/b:58b7fbbfcb], trades in the pre-season are a [b:58b7fbbfcb]little easier[/b:58b7fbbfcb], trades pre-waiver are by far the [b:58b7fbbfcb]easiest and smartest [/b:58b7fbbfcb]to make (imo) so that's what I found most suprising.....My guess is, if most owners went in waivers with the #1 pick, and Cobb, Musial and Schoendienst were available, almost every time Cobb or Musial would go 1st, not Red.

The best example I can give you is this.....On my own team, in this league, I planned a certain amount of $$$ for pitching. Sam Rice (a nice value RF) was on my card and I fully expected to keep him, [b:58b7fbbfcb]BUT[/b:58b7fbbfcb] when you get a chance at Cobb you grab him and do some other shuffling to make the $$$ work.

I thought that's kinda the situation we were in here. While there isn't the top 4 or 5 studley 2bs available there are some nice values out there.

Consider that Gantner just finished (well almost finshed) a season hitting .297 with 14 HRs and 109 RBIs and you see what I mean..... I just thought most would jump at Musial or Cobb for Red, I know I would.

Maybe I should snag Gantner, and then add him to my offers, so Kiki and Stan will be easier to trade.

PBTR, you and me in the same league would drive the rest of the league nuts. I try to trade as soon as the rosters come out, and then pause when the league starts, to see what happens.

[quote:946dc13aff]Sounds like Nev likes to shop Red a lot? To wit:
You give up:
Salazar, Luis (500,000)
Garber, Gene (3,130,000)

Other team gives up:
Schoendienst, Red (4,240,000)
Pattin, Marty (540,000)

Or maybe he just LOVES Garber (it's my first time snagging him). This proposal was preceded by Barney Schultz for Senor Garber. I declined them. Both came prewaivers, and no bait from him since.
[/quote:946dc13aff]

I think going into a season with [b:946dc13aff]Bishop as your 2b is scary [/b:946dc13aff](imo) I think it's easier to get a good rp (maybe not as good as Garber) than find a good 2b (if Bishop is the best that's left that says alot)
If my choice of rp/2b combo is Bishop/Garber or Schoendienst/and anybody

I'd [b:946dc13aff]ALWAYS [/b:946dc13aff] [b:946dc13aff]take Schoendienst [/b:946dc13aff]and some other rp befor Garber and Bishop

Schultz is better than Garber and some love him (PBRT and myself to name two)... [b:946dc13aff]If $$$ is not an issue [/b:946dc13aff][b:946dc13aff]I'd ALWAYS[/b:946dc13aff][b:946dc13aff] take Schultz over Garber.

So my point here is I probably would have accepted both if they were offered to me.[/b:946dc13aff]
