Avoid using as PH

Avoid using as PH

So I am going through a new team and making the Strategy Settings for my hitters and come to the "Avoid using as PH in blowouts" check box and am once again at a loss. What is the purpose of this box? Why would you use someone as a PH during a blowout? Why would you not use someone as a PH during a blowout? Blowout which way?

I use this box sometimes. A good example of this could be a hitter with a high injury rating. Maybe you platoon this high injury guy. You don't want him to have any ABs in blowout games because what if he got a big injury in a useless AB? Therefore I would check the don't use as PH in blowouts box.

Another example in this year's set (2006). Maybe you have Rey Sanchez as a backup infielder and PH. He only costs .53 I think but he hits well and has good defense but he has an injury rating of 5. I would leave that box checked on his card. You might want him to PH in a close game where you need a base hit. You would not want to chance injury in a game that is already won or lost.

Thanks LMBombers. Your explanation makes me think of another time to check it. On a recent '05 team I had Thomas and Walker riding the pine after I had already clinched a playoff spot. I was hoping and praying that HAL wouldn't PH with them. They were used as PH's however (but not injured luckily). Checking the box would have decreased the possiblity of their use.
