This could be my alltime worst team and...THE AXE HAS FALLEN

I don't know how to fix it. Changed some of the pitching staff yesterday. Fryman(doing terrible) for Watt. John(awful) for Hughson. Flood(miserable) for Jamieson. Wilson(stinkin up the joint) for Demaree. Don't know if it was a help or not. Demaree at least won. The lineup is 10th. Just stinkin the place up. Any thoughts? I just can't put together a Royals team.

Wow, they are terrible... looks like some of my efforts.

1) Where is Boggs hitting? A .412 OBP and scoring 12 runs in 48 games? If you have him, he has to hit 1/2. If he is 1/2, and still only scored that many, all I can say is ouch. I just don't like him.

2) Very susceptible to strong LH pitching. Your best RH hitter, Ripken, hits better vs righties, so power vs lefties could be a problem, cuz Yaz loses most of his.

3) Lack of XB hits - Parrish, Gwynn, Yaz, and Flood/Jamieson are more singles or strictly HRs. I prefer more 2b/3b in a smaller park.

4) Your luck stinks here.

5) I don't like John anywhere

I agree with the numbers guy. It all seems funny, but you should see some improvement. Sorry to be the one to inform you, but it looks like this is a good team to experiment with, 'cause you've got a fork stuck in the back of this one.

I've had one very nice Tommy John season just to throw a wrench in your anti-Tommy John philosophy:

I loved that last team there, by the way. Sorry to hop on your thread, Grindi, but I had to thank Tommy John for his surgery and for winning 17 for [i:0776bb42af]Mark Bellhorn[/i:0776bb42af].

:D

My Royals Stadium strategy is much like my small ball strategies. Get two home run hitters, a lefty and a righty, but both guys must not be dependant on ballpark HRs, of course. Get [b:0776bb42af]two[/b:0776bb42af] guys with speed and close to or better than .400 obps to leadoff. Get good defense. Get good starting pitching (you can't play catch up with this type of team, so the pen doesn't factor in a winning club except in a statistical abberration).

I mostly agree with the esteemed gentlemen above, except PJ's comment on speed, two is not enough. I look at your team and I see SLOOOOOW.

Gwynn is your speedster at 15, a few 14s, 12, 11, and 9. I cringe when I have more than TWO guys under 14, and that's including my catcher. That's a lot of one base at a time baseball, not many stretching for extra bases or runners advancing with those guys. the opportunities come up more often than you would think, from my Netplay experience. A royals Stadium team IS a small ball team, and smallball means fast. Don't need base stealers, they need to be able to run. If you must have HR hitters (and you need one or two), get someone like Alou or Valentine, who can motor as well.

Just my €0.02

The axe has fallen. Gehringer went in a trade for cash and Doran. Ripken the fa for Peckinpaugh. Jamieson for Hack. Seaver for Vuck and Watt for Miller.

SPs: Hughson, Demaree, Mcnally, Vuck
RPs: Garber, Miller, Wyatt, Hall, Aguilera

Parrish c
McCormick 1b
Doran 2b
Peck ss
Boggs 3b
Yaz lf
Wilson cf
Gwynn rf

I'm hoping to get back to .500. It's looking bleak.
